Pohang TP promotes local community problem solving in the area of earthquake and disaster safety with citizen participation

Start discovering R&D tasks using SW technology through operation of Gyeongbuk SOS Lab

【Break News 】Reporter Joo-ho Oh = Pohang Techno Park (President Lee Sang-sik) and Gyeongbuk SOS Lab (Solution in Our Society LAB) participated by 10 citizens and experts on the 7th, It opened a steering committee and announced that it will begin to discover the task in earnest.

On this day, the Steering Committee conducted online and offline concurrently, and discussed plans for the future with the appointment ceremony of the Steering Committee and citizen researchers.

This year, through the operation of the Gyeongbuk SOS Lab, it is planning to draw out five R&D projects in the field of earthquake and disaster safety unique to Gyeongsangbuk-do.

The East Sea regions of Gyeongsangbuk-do, such as Pohang and Gyeongju, suffered enormous social and economic damage from earthquakes in 2016 and 2017. Accordingly, Pohang TP has been operating the Gyeongbuk SOS Lab in which local members participate since last year to try to solve the disaster and safety issues with SW technology.

SOS Lab stands for a laboratory in everyday life to solve problems in the local community, and as a living lab where citizens take the initiative, Gyeongbuk SOS Lab deals with earthquake-related disaster and safety issues.

Citizen researchers at Gyeongbuk SOS Lab are making various efforts, such as completing specialized training for Living Lab facilitators and obtaining certifications, to strengthen their own capabilities. Participating.

As a result of the previous year's activities, a total of 7 R&D projects, including the development of personalized disaster evacuation information services and the development of disaster preparedness information services using drones, achieved the achievement of five companies carrying out research projects.

This year's Citizen Research Institute's activities are expected to derive problems for each of the three regions (East, North, and West), and experts and Citizen Researchers exchange opinions at a workshop in November to determine a problem solving research project in 2021.

Pohang TP Director Lee Sang-sik said, “In the East Sea region of Gyeongsangbuk-do such as Pohang and Gyeongju, the perception of safety has changed since the earthquake. We will create a solution-type model,” and asked for active participation from all levels of society.
