Gyeongbuk and Jeonbuk join hands to build an early east-west transportation network!

[Break News Gyeongbuk] Reporter Seong-Hyun Lee = Gyeongsangbuk-do is the East-West Transit Railway (Gimcheon-Jeonju) and the East-West 3-Axis (Daegu), which will lead the harmony between Yeongnam and Honam at Raje Gate, Muju-gun, Jeollabuk-do, the historical passage that formed the border between Silla and Baekje It has been announced that it has adopted a joint proposal between Jeonju and Jeollabuk-do for the construction of expressways.

At the signing ceremony for the joint proposal, Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo, Jeonbuk-do Governor Song Ha-jin, and five mayors and counties via transit signed a joint proposal for early promotion of the East-West transportation network, and promised to cooperate with each other to establish a railroad and road network for East-West harmony. It pledged to continue to carry out suggested activities to the central government until the transportation network is launched.

Joint proposals include △ Reflection of the 4th National Rail Network Construction Plan (2021-2030) of the Gimcheon-Jeonju Railroad, the only railroad network connection plan between Jeonbuk and Gyeongbuk, and prompt start, △ The 2nd Expressway of the Daegu-Jeonju Expressway, which is drifting for a long time. It contains the reflection of the five-year construction plan (2021~2025).

The Gimcheon-Jeonju railroad (108.1 km), a railroad that connects Gyeongbuk and Jeonbuk, was included in the 3rd National Rail Network Construction Plan and has been proposed to the central government several times, but has not been able to provide a driving force.

If a new railway between Jeonju and Gimcheon is established, it is possible to connect the Saemangeum Port inlet railway (47.6km) from Saemangeum to Gunsan (Daeya) and the double track train (39.8km) between Daeya and Iksan to Jeonju, and from Gimcheon to the whole country. Railroad transportation networks can be used.

The expressway between Daegu and Jeonju (128.1㎞) is an extension of the 3-axis east-west highway between Saemangeum and Pohang. The Pohang-Daegu section is in operation in 2004, the Saemangeum-Jeonju section (55.1km) is under construction in 2018, and the Jeonju-Muju Expressway (42km), which is still unopened, is being proposed in Jeonbuk.

The Daegu-Muju (86.1km) section, despite continuous demands from the central government, has been sluggish due to lack of economics after conducting a preliminary feasibility study in October 2010.

When the two transport networks are completely connected, the physical and temporal distance between Gyeongbuk and Jeonbuk is shortened, allowing for rapid transport of cargo and passengers.

In the future, as transportation networks such as Saemangeum and Daegu-Gyeongbuk integrated new airport will be connected, it is expected to form a new economic belt that connects the Panwest Sea, the East Sea, and the inland areas, and synergies between the two regions, such as more active exchange of manufacturing and agricultural goods traffic in the Gyeongbuk and Jeonbuk regions. It is expected to be able to increase.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo said, “It is difficult to achieve a practical effect with the proposal alone, and cooperation with the political world is also necessary, but more importantly, it is possible to quickly grasp the trend of the era of East-West connection, and to open the course of the project when the will and capabilities of the residents of both regions are concentrated. ”,

He emphasized that “the crisis of local extinction can be overcome when East-West harmony and cultural and economic win-win development are achieved by revitalizing exchanges between East and West by early establishment of the East-West transportation network, which is an essential element of win-win and balanced development.”
