POSCO's job support training for small and medium-sized companies
【Break News Pohang】 Reporter Park Young-jae = POSCO's'employment support training for young job seekers' appeared to be a solid foundation for the stagnant youth employment market. Even in a situation where collective education is difficult due to Corona 19, 156 people were educated this year by providing both non-face-to-face and face-to-face education.
POSCO is operating'Youth Job Seekers Employment Support Education' to help suppliers and SMEs secure excellent manpower and create youth jobs.
This training, organized by the Secretariat of the Small and Medium Business Consortium of the Cooperation Win-win Group, POSCO Labor Relations Office, focuses on training the basic literacy necessary for company life and practical skills such as machinery, electricity and welding for 2 to 3 months for young job seekers who wish to work for POSCO partners or small and medium businesses. After, it is an educational program that links recruitment to actual partners or small and medium-sized enterprises.
In the past three years, including 156 people this year, a total of 484 job seekers have gone through the employment support training for POSCO youth job seekers, of which 80% have succeeded in finding employment at small and medium-sized companies.
In particular, this year, POSCO received favorable reviews for operating an education program that utilizes advanced education infrastructure.
POSCO has introduced an experience-type virtual reality education system (VR) and a virtual simulator so that trainees can learn the sense of the field in situations where field training and experience are difficult due to Corona 19. Trainees practiced electric welding using VR equipment, and experienced the steel production process and overhead crane work directly using a virtual simulator. One of the trainees who received training to support employment for young job seekers said, "I was disappointed that field education was difficult due to Corona 19, but it was helpful to experience vividly through VR."
In the future, POSCO will continue to develop advanced educational infrastructure including VR. In fact, POSCO developed the first VR axis training program in Korea in collaboration with POSCO Chemical this year. This program is expected to be applied in earnest to the curriculum for training technical workers next year after pilot operation.
A POSCO official said, "In accordance with the Corona 19 situation, we will secure the safety of trainees by appropriately utilizing non-face-to-face education, and at the same time increase the educational effect by utilizing cutting-edge education infrastructure such as VR."
On the other hand, since 2005, POSCO has also been conducting practical training for suppliers, suppliers, and local small and medium-sized enterprises, who have difficulty in self-education due to poor conditions such as educational facilities and professional instructors. In June, POSCO was selected as the best operating institution for the second consecutive year following last year in the “Small and Medium Business Consortium Education Project Evaluation” by the Ministry of Employment and Labor in recognition of its contribution to youth employment and SMEs' win-win growth.
The training for youth job seekers is recruited throughout the year through the POSCO Small and Medium Business Consortium website (educs.posco.co.kr).
