이번 경연은 지방환경청 1차 평가와 전문가로 구성된 평가위원회의 최종평가 순으로 진행됐다.

평가위원회는 수질개선과 수생태계 복원 효과는 물론 복원 후 사후관리에 중점을 두고 전국의 우수하천 27개 가운데 6개소를 선정했다.

우수사례에 이름을 올린 칠곡군 동정천은 총 공사비 51억3천6백만 원을 투입해 2015년 공사를 시작해 2017년 준공했다.

칠곡군은 물저수로와 호안을 정비하고 수질개선을 위해 인공습지 3개소, 여울 9개소 설치하는 것은 물론 생물상 복원을 위한 자연형 여울도 설치했다.

이와 더불어 탐방로, 데크로드, 목교, 징검다리 등을 마련해 주민들의 이용 편의를 높였다.

수질은 2014년 BOD 3.63ppm‘보통’에서2019년 1.65ppm‘좋음’등급으로 개선되어 천연기념물인 수달, 황조롱이가 지속적으로 관찰되는 등 생물상으로도 40과, 72분류군 및 79종이 증가해 생태계 건전성을 증진시켰다.

이밖에도 주민들의 지속적인 관심을 바탕으로 분기별 주요사업장 점검을 통한 사후 관리 분야에서도 우수한 평가를 받았다.
