【브레이크뉴스 경북 칠곡】이성현 기자=칠곡군은 22일 백선기 칠곡군수가 에티오피아 6.25전쟁 참전용사의 희생과 헌신에 대한 결초보은(結草報恩)을 위해 산타로 변신했다고 밝혔다.

칠곡군에 따르면 백 군수는 이날 서울 거주 에티오피아 6.25 참전용사 후손인 크두스(10)와 동생 마피(7)양과 온택트 방식으로‘성탄절 선물 전달식’을 가졌다.

이날 전달식은 백 군수의 인사말과 답사에 이어 참전용사 후손인 이스라엘(32) 씨에 대한 장학금 100만 원 전달 순으로 진행됐다.

에티오피아는 6·25전쟁 당시 253차례 전투에서 모두 승리를 거두며 대한민국의 자유와 평화를 지켰고 고아원을 설립해 전쟁고아를 돌봤다.

‘호국평화’를 도시 정체성으로 삼고 다양한 관련 사업을 펼쳐온 칠곡군은 2014년부터 에티오피아 현지 교육·농업지원 사업은 물론 참전용사 후원 사업을 펼쳐왔다.

지난달 15일부터는 군민들의 정성을 모아 국내 거주 참전용사 후손 30가구에 보낼 크리스마스 선물을 마련하기 시작했다.

이에 고사리 손의 어린이를 비롯해 각계각층 주민들의 자발적인 동참이 이어졌다.

칠곡군민이 모은 성탄 선물은 에티오피아 참전용사 후원회를 통해 이달 24일 참전용사 후손에게 전달될 예정이다.

백선기 군수는“저를 세상에서 가장 따뜻한 산타로 만들어준 칠곡 군민들이 자랑스럽고 감사하다”며“70년 전 그분들의 희생과 헌신에는 턱없이 부족하지만 대한민국에 베풀었던 따스함은 돌려주고 싶다”고 밝혔다.
