28일 경상북도는 영덕군청에서 ㈜디오(The O)와 경상북도·영덕군 간 ‘영덕 대관람차(영덕아이) 설치사업’ 투자양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다.

 

경상북도에 따르면 ㈜디오는 영덕군 강구면 영덕해파랑공원 일원에 2022년 5월 준공을 목표로 사업비 500억 원을 투입하여 높이 140m, 직경 120m, 15인승 캐빈 48대 규모의 대관람차 설치사업을 추진할 계획이다.

 

대관람차는 바퀴모양의 둘레에 작은 공간을 여러 개 만들어, 먼 곳을 바라볼 수 있도록 한 거대한 회전식 놀이기구로 세계 주요 도시의 상징으로 여겨지며 각 지역의 대표 관광명소로 자리잡고 있다. 영국 런던 템즈강변에 위치한 ‘런던아이’는 연간 3,500만 명의 관람객이 찾을 정도로 런던 여행의 필수방문지가 되고 있다.

 

‘영덕아이’에는 전망대·레스토랑·디지털 아쿠아리움·VIP라운지 등 부대시설이 들어서게 되며, 다양한 이벤트 개최 등 복합문화콘텐츠 서비스와 영덕 해상케이블카·대게거리·해파랑공원과 연계하여 지역 플랫폼 관광지가 될 것으로 예상하고 있다.
