【브레이크뉴스 울진】박영재 기자=울진군(군수 전찬걸)은 지난 28일 ‘환동해심해연구센터 설립 및 운영 등에 관한 기획 연구용역’의 추진방향과 사업범위 구체화를 위한 다양한 분야의 전문가 의견을 수렴하는 자문회의를 가졌다.
29일, 울진군에 따르면 이날 회의는 군 관계자 및 김창오 군의원을 비롯해 국립해양과학관장, 한국해양과학기술원 동해연구소 ㆍ 환동해산업연구원 연구원, 포스텍대학 교수 등 해양과학분야 전문가 등 30여명이 참석했으며, 용역계획 보고와 전문가 자문 순으로 진행됐다.
‘환동해 심해연구센터 설립 및 운영 등에 관한 기획 연구용역’은 동해가 가진 무한한 잠재력을 바탕으로 해양탐사의 체계적인 연구의 필요성이 요구됨에 따라, 해양신산업의 본격적인 추진을 위해 울진군이 주력하고 있는 핵심전략사업 중 하나다.
연구용역은 한국해양과학기술원(KIOST)이 수행하며, 용역기간은 올해 10월까지다.
이번 회의에서는 지난해 11월 착수회의에서 논의된 내용을 중심으로 환동해 심해연구센터 유치를 위한 구체적인 연구결과 도출, 운영주체 및 운영방안 모색, 지역과 상생 발전하는 방향 검토, 해양관광ㆍ레저 콘텐츠 등과 전 국민의 관심 유도 방안마련 등 본 사업의 성공적인 유치를 위해 관련전문가들의 심도 있는 의견들을 나눴다.
자문위원들은 센터의 필요성에 대한 논리개발과 현재 추진중인 해양연구관련 사업과의 연계성 검토 등 환동해 심해연구센터만의 차별화되고 구체화된 계획이 필요하다는 데 공감하며, 건립 후 센터 운영주체, 운영방안에 대한 실현성 있는 연구가 중요하다는 데 의견을 덧붙였다.
전찬걸 군수는“환동해 심해연구센터의 적극적 유치로 해양과학 R&D의 거점을 형성하고, 관련 분야의 산업화를 통해 지역경제에 활력을 불어넣을 계획이다”라며“앞으로도 울진군 미래 신성장사업 발굴을 위해 지속적으로 노력해 나가겠다”고 포부를 밝혔다.
