경북교육청, 농산어촌 작은 학교 자생력 육성한다

이를 위해 경북교육청은 ‘작은 학교 가꾸기 사업’ 및 ‘농어촌 특색프로그램 운영 학교’를 선정해 4억5백만 원을 지원한다고 22일 밝혔다.

 

작은 학교 가꾸기 사업은 지난 1월 28일부터 2월 5일까지 공모를 통해 학교 규모, 학생 수 증가 가능성, 지역과 연계된 특색프로그램 운영 계획 등을 심사해 포항 곡강초등학교 등 13개교를 신규 운영 학교로 선정했다.

 

선정된 학교의 사업 기간은 오는 3월부터 2024년 2월까지 3년이다. 2019년 선정된 12개교와 올해 선정된 13개교 총 25개교에 3억7500만 원을 지원한다.

 

작은 학교 가꾸기 사업은 그동안 지역 사회와 유기적인 협력체제로 학교 실정에 맞는 다양하고 특색있는 교육 프로그램 개발·운영으로 학생·학부모의 만족도를 높여 폐교 위기에 처한 학교를 되살리는 대안으로 자리매김하고 있다.

 

‘농어촌 학교 특색프로그램 운영’사업은 2018년부터 농어촌 교육여건 개선 사업의 일환으로 농어촌 작은 학교의 자생력 육성을 목표로 다양한 학교운영 모델 개발과 특색 있는 교육 프로그램을 운영해 왔다.

 

교육부로부터 특별교부금을 지원받아 시행하고 있으며, 교육지원청 중심형과 학교 중심형 두 가지로 운영하고 있다.

 

단위 학교는 지난 1월14일부터 22일까지 농어촌 읍면 소재 학생수 200명 이하 초·중학교를 대상으로 공모를 통해 경주 모량초등학교 등 3개교를 선정했으며, 교당 1000만 원을 지원한다.

 

교육지원청 중심형은 지난 2019년 문경교육지원청이 선정돼 지난해까지 2년 동안 5억7000만 원의 특별교부금을 지원받았으며, 올해는 교육부로부터 5천만 원을 지원받는다.

 

농어촌 학교 특색프로그램 운영은 농어촌 소재 학교 학생들에게 학교 여건에 맞는 다양한 프로그램을 제공해 취약계층 지역의 교육력 강화 및 교육격차를 해소하는데 기여했다.

 

임종식 교육감은 “농산어촌 소규모학교만의 경쟁력을 높이기 위해 다양하고 특색있는 프로그램 등을 발굴하도록 행·재정적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 말했다.

The operation of special programs for rural schools contributed to strengthening the educational power of the underprivileged areas and bridging the educational gap by providing various programs suitable for school conditions to students in rural schools.
