이와 함께 그동안 줄기차게 제기됐던 ‘TK국회의원들은 도대체 어디서 무얼 하고 있는 것이냐’는 지역민들의 원성이 하늘을 찌를 듯 고조되고 있다. 일각에서 ‘선거 공항‘ ’매표 공항‘이라며 가덕도 신공항을 몰아부쳤지만, 결국 정치적 논리를 앞장 세운 매표 행위를 막지는 못했다.

그나마 실리를 챙기는 쪽으로 선회하며 대구경북통합신공항 특별법을 함께 통과시키자고 뒤늦게 목소리를 냈지만 더불어민주당의 오만과 국민의힘의 무력함에 TK는 말 그대로 ’닭 쫓던 개 지붕 쳐다보는 격‘이 됐다.

가덕도신공항 특별법 내용은 가히 충격적이다. 신속·원활한 건설을 위해 예타를 면제할 수 있다’는 내용에 더해 환경영향평가 간소화, 사전 타당성 조사 축소 등 핵심 특례조항도 민주당이 발의한 특별법 원안의 방향대로 유지됐다.

민주당은 그러면서 TK특별법은 아무 말도 없이 무산시켜 버렸다. 오만해도 이 정도로 오만할 수없고, 무기력해도 이렇게까지 무기력할 수 없다는 비난이 쏟아지는 이유다. 26일 본회의 통과가 이뤄지면 부산가덕도 공항 건설은 본격화될 전망이다. TK 의원들 이날부터 잠 못 이루는 밤이 될 것이란 예상이다.

TK 의원들, 분하지만 참을 수밖에 없다?

민주당은 이날 대경공항특별법은 동일입지 내 군공항 특별법과 대경공항특별법, 2개의 특별법이 작용하기에 법리상 문제가 있다며 법안 처리에 부정적 입장을 나타낸 것으로 알려졌다.

이런 가운데 피끓는 심정으로 강력한 반발 의지를 감추지 못하는 대구경북 출신 의원들이 늘고 있다. 그렇지만 이들 역시 부산과 서울 재보선을 앞두고 있는 당의 입장을 바라보면  수위조절에 나설 수밖에 없을 것이란 전망이다.

일부 의원들은 “무력감 이전에 야당의원으로서의 한계를 느낀다”고 고백한다. 김상훈 의원은 입장문을 내고 “대경특별법은 가덕도특별법과 법체계 및 공항에 대한 절차적 지원 내용이 유사하기에 동시처리가 필요함을 지속적으로 제기했지만 민주당은 이를 수용하지 않았다”며 “추후 대경공항특별법을 포함, 국제민간공항으로서 대구공항의 원활한 이전 및 건설 지원을 위한 대안을 협의해 조속히 처리하겠다”고 말했다.

김 의원은 다만 “현재 대경공항이 군공항 이전 특별법에 근거한 기부 대 양여 방식이 선행추진되고 있으므로, 민간공항 건설을 위한 별도의 대안 마련이 필요하다는 게 이낙연 민주당 대표의 입장”이라며 “향후 대구시, 경북도, 국토부와 협의해 신공항연결철도 등 대경공항의 체계적 지원을 내용으로 하는 법안 마련을 논의하겠다”고 덧붙였다.

그러나 이번 상황을 겪으면서 지역민들 사이에서는 민주당에 대하여는 비호감이라는 굉장히 안좋은 여론이 형성되고 있다. 이뿐 아니라 초지일관 무기력으로 대응한 국민의힘에 대하여도 배신감이 싹트고 있다.

실제, 지역 민주당에서는 중앙당의 이 같은 방침에 대하여 단 한마디 언급도 지적도 하지 못하고 있다. 가덕도는 물론, 대구경북통합신공항 등 공항 이야기조차 입 밖에 내는 자체가 금기인양 행동하는 것을 지켜본 지역민들은 “민주당이려니 생각한다”고 말하고 있다.

국민의힘 이야기를 하면 한숨만 쉬는 경우들이 많아지고 있다. 지역의 국민의힘 당원 A씨는 “설마 설마 했는데 정말 우리 당이 이 정도 일줄은 몰랐다”고 푸념했다. 주민들의 한숨은 더 깊어지고 있다. 민주당으로 갈아 탈 생각은 없다는 주민 B 씨( 중구 거주. 54세.남)는 “그렇지만 국민의힘도 웬만큼은 해줘야지. 이건 뭐하는 사람들인지, 우리가 왜 그 사람들을 뽑았는지 이해가 안된다”고 말했다. 그러면서 “차라리 총선을 다시 했으면 좋겠다. 경선이라도 다시 하자고 한다면 국민의힘 다른 사람을 뽑겠다”고 거듭 강조했다.

정치권에 대한 지역민들의 사실상의 포기 정황이 포착되면서 1년 앞으로 다가오는 지방선거에 대한 걱정도 쌓여지고 있다. 그러면서도 한 켠에서는 “이번에야 말로 지역을 위해 일할 수 있는 사람을 뽑아야 한다. 여자든, 남자든 능력이 있는 사람이어야 하고, 지역에 대한 애정과 경험, 그리고 현장 정치인을 뽑아야 한다”는 여론이 조금씩 고개를 들고 있다.

한편, 지역 정치권 관계자는 “지난 총선 당시 민주당 후보를 단 한명도 당선시키지 않은 대구경북이 내년 지방선거에서도 이러한 기조를 유지해 나갈 가능성이 높아졌다”며 “총선서 당선자는 내지 않은 데 대한 명분이 생긴데다 아무래도 국민의힘에 대한 배신감보다는 민주당에 대한 비호감이 선거에 더 큰 영향이 미칠 것”으로 내다봤다.
