경주시의 해묵은 난제였던 제2금장교가 사업 추진 5년 만에 ‘황금대교’라는 명칭으로 본격적인 공사에 착수한 것이다.

주낙영 시장은 이 자리에서 “오늘 황금대교 건설공사 착공식을 개최함으로써 경주시민 모두가 기다려 온 숙원사업이 현실화됐다”며 “무엇보다 시장 후보 시절부터 제2금장교 문제를 해결하겠다고 시민여러분과 한 약속을 이렇게 지킬 수 있어서 매우 기쁘다”고 말했다.

이철우 도지사 또한 축사를 통해 “26만 경주시민의 숙원사업인 제2금장교 착공을 진심으로 축하드린다“며 “제2금장교가 완성되면 주변도시의 교통과 생활 인프라가 개선돼 올해 말 개통되는 나원역과 함께 문화관광도시 인프라 확충에 따른 큰 역할이 기대된다”고 말했다.

경주시 황성동과 현곡면 금장리를 잇는 황금대교는 총 연장 371m, 폭 20m 왕복 4차로 규모로 2023년 말 준공 예정이며, 도비, 교부세 등을 포함해 총사업비 410억원이 투입된다.

교량위치 선정은 전문가들의 자문과 수차례의 시뮬레이션을 거쳐, 강변로와 용황로 교차점에서 형산로(현곡-안강)를 잇는 지금의 위치로 최종 결정됐다.

또 교량명칭은 공모를 통해 ‘황금대교’로 최종 선정했으며, 오는 5월 국가지명위원회를 거쳐 정식명칭으로 확정·사용될 예정이다.

황금대교가 완공되면 기존 황성동과 현곡면을 유일하게 연결하던 금장교의 교통정체가 해소됨은 물론 금장지구와 현곡 푸르지오 등 대규모 아파트 단지의 정주여건이 크게 개선될 것으로 기대되고 있다.
