Student at Dongguk University Graduate School of Medicine, Seorin Park, published SCI-level thesis

On March 3, a paper published by Seorin Park (Dept. of Medicine 4) from Dongguk University School of Medicine was published in PeerJ, an internationally renowned academic journal at the SCI (Science and Technology Citation Index) level.

According to Dongguk University on the 25th, this paper was co-authored by Shin Hee-young, a first-year dermatologist at Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital, on the subject of'Identifying the mechanism of inhibition of human T cell activity through calcium and potassium ion channels of alpha mangosteen. .

Alpha-mangosteen is a compound of xanthones derived from mangosteen, a tropical fruit, and is known to have various active effects such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer effects.

This study investigates the mechanism of how alpha-mangosteen can inhibit the activity of human T cells in terms of its anti-inflammatory activity. Research papers on the anti-inflammatory mechanism of alpha-mangosteen have been published in various ways to date, but calcium This study is the first to analyze the mechanism that the activity of human T cells can be inhibited through inhibition of potassium ion channels.

This research was supported by the Korea Research Foundation's Personal Basic Science and Engineering Research Support Project, under the guidance of Professor Joo-Hyun Nam of the Department of Physiology at Dongguk Medical University, a joint research with the University's Ion Channel Disease Research Institute (Director: Professor Kim Woo-kyung of the Department of Allergy). done.

Student Park Seo-rin said, “Through this research, we are expected to be able to help in various research fields necessary for the development of new treatments such as immunosuppressants in the future. It became,” he said.

Dongguk University Medical School Advising Professor Nam Joo-Hyun said, "This research is the result of the participation in the research from the preliminary course of Medical School by Seorin Park and Hee-Young Shin." The fruit of the education and curriculum reform.”
