Gyeongju City, to restore the Shilla Tea Garden near Girimsa Temple!

Gyeongju City restored the modern tea garden ``Silla Cha Tea Garden'' in Girimsa Temple in Yangbuk-myeon, based on the literature of Guhwasan Hwaseongsagi (九華山 化城寺記), which said that Kim Gyo-gak (696-794), a monk from the Silla royal family, propagated tea trees from Guhwasan in the Tang Dynasty. I decided to do it.

The “Silla Tea Tea Garden” project is not to create a simple tea plantation, but to create a grass garden that contains tea tree planting patterns and various aspects of the four seasons to create a unique tea garden in Gyeongju.

This project, which costs 100 million won, is supported by 80 million won by the city of Gyeongju, and 20 million won by the Shilla Cha Farming Association (hereinafter referred to as the Farming Association, CEO Eung-Sang Lee).

First of all, the Silla Tea Tea Garden, which will be piloted on an area of 1 hectare, will be operated in earnest from June after basic maintenance work and tea tree planting from next month.

To this end, the city and farming association established a feasibility study and basic plan for the establishment of the Shilla Tea Tea Garden in May last year, and in January this year, the pilot project promotion plan was announced and detailed design was carried out.

When the Shilla Tea Tea Garden is established, the city of Gyeongju plans to create and operate a differentiated tea garden by incorporating historical contents of Gyeongju, unlike a tea garden garden that focuses on simply viewing.

Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-yeong said, “Through this restoration project, it will be re-examined that the unified Shilla played a central role in the formation of the Korean Peninsula tea culture. A lot of tourists will find it.”

On the other hand, Dongguk Lee Sang-guk's house (東國李相國集) introduces the details of Wonhyo's tea life, and records that King Gyeongdeok of Silla used tea for offerings, so it can be predicted that tea culture was widely spread not only to the palace but also to the general people. have.
