Complete decoding of genome sequence of domestic native plant Count Peony

The Korean Oriental Medicine Promotion Agency (President Lee Eung-se) has successfully deciphered the chloroplast genome information of Paeonia japonica, a domestic native plant that is effective in anti-inflammatory and analgesic, through next-generation sequencing analysis (NGS).31 Sun said.

As a result of the study, the DNA sequence of the earl chloroplast is 152,731bp (base pair, DNA length unit), and it was found that it consists of a total of 113 genes. The related information was published in the international journal “Mitochondrial DNA Part B,” and the chloroplast DNA sequence was registered with the World Gene Bank of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) (Registration No.: MT821944).

This research is expected to be used as basic data for the preservation of varieties and to create high value-added medicinal materials by confirming the unique genetic structure and diversity of Earl Peony and providing information on the chloroplast genome.

Meanwhile, the Korea Oriental Medicine Promotion Agency is developing a differentiation kit to contribute to improving quality safety and reliability by reducing concerns about the mixing of Korean herbal medicines. Until now, 7 items of differentiation kits such as Sanyak, Peony, Angelica, Maekmundong, Siho, Jihwang, and Jiyu have been developed.

Director Lee Eung-se said, “With the Nagoya Protocol in effect, genomic information of indigenous resources is an important intellectual property right for the protection of Korea's intrinsic resources,” and said, “We will take the lead in establishing sovereignty and industrialization of indigenous herbal medicine resources through continuous genomic information registration and research in the future.” .
