대구경북경제자유구역청은 13일 포항시청에서 의약 및 약학연구개발업체인 ㈜바이오파머와 460억 규모의 투자 양해각서를 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이날 행사는 최삼룡 대구경북경제자유구역청장, 이강덕 포항시장, 정해종 포항시의회 의장,김원묵 ㈜바이오파머 대표이사 등 20명이 참석한 가운데 진행됐다.

㈜바이오파머는 2019년 설립된 포항시 강소연구개발특구(이하 강소특구)제1호 연구소기업으로, 한국지질자원연구원과의 협약으로 이전받은 특허기술을 바탕으로 포항, 경주 지역의 점토광물인 벤토나이트를 활용한 개량신약을 개발 중에 있다.  

㈜바이오파머는 포항융합기술산업지구(이하 포항융합지구) 20,400㎡에 460억정도를 투자,벤토나이트 활용 신약개발 및 의약품(원료) 제조업 공장을건립하여 25명의 신규 고용을 창출할 계획이며, 이번 투자를 통해 전량 수입에 의존하는 벤토나이트계 의약품 원료의 국산화와 지역 내광물을 활용한 미래 신성장산업 창출 등 부가가치 제고가 기대된다.
