In Gyeongju, “Sign up for crop disaster insurance that compensates for natural disasters”

In Gyeongju City, the rice crop disaster insurance covers natural disasters such as typhoons, hail, heavy rains, tide damage (damage from birds and animals), and fires. Sign up through

According to the city of Gyeongju, disaster insurance for rice crops compensates for damage caused by natural disasters such as typhoons, hail, heavy rains, tidal damage (damage from birds and animals), and fire.

If you sign up for a pest special contract, you can also get compensation for damage from white leaf blight, rice sprouts, blasts, striped leaf blight, sesame seed blight, blackworm, and bacterial rice blight.

However, the subscription period for chestnuts, jujubes, and tangerines is until May 14th, and until May 21st for peppers, and until June 11th for sweet potatoes and corn (including feed).

Last year, 1459 farmers in Gyeongju region subscribed to crop insurance on 5,476 square meters of farmland, and compensation of 4,087 million won was paid to 791 farms damaged by re-enactment.

This means that an average of 516 million won was paid for each affected farm, and it was investigated that crop accident insurance helped the farming family to stabilize their management.

Last year, rice farmers accounted for 66% of the total number of registered farmers with 963 rice farmers, followed by apple cultivation at 126 (8.6%) and pear cultivation at 101 (6.9%).

Since 2019, the city of Gyeongju has increased the annual insurance premium subsidy rate to 85% so that local farmers can receive many benefits from crop disaster insurance, reducing their self-pay to 15%.

In particular, from June of this year, it is promoting a project to expand the application rate to 90% and reduce the self-pay of farmers to 10%.

For more information on this, please contact the Agricultural Policy and Income Development Team of Gyeongju City or the local Agricultural Cooperatives.

Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young said, “In order to reduce the damage to farm households due to natural disasters, it is not an option but a necessity,” and “We will do our best to ensure that more farmers subscribe to crop accident insurance.”
