Gyeongju Fire Department and Korea Atomic Energy Agency establish a “fire-free safety village”

On the 20th, the Gyeongju Fire Department (Chief Chang-Hwan Jeong) designated Seoakgeum Village in Gyeongju City as a “fire-free safety village” with the Korea Atomic Energy Agency (Chairman Seongsu Cha) and delivered firefighting facilities for houses.

The fire-free safety village aims to eliminate the safety blind spot by providing fire extinguishers and detectors in order to minimize damage to life and property caused by fires in fire departments and remote residential areas, enabling early detection and suppression of fires.

The event was sponsored by the Korea Atomic Energy Agency's residential firefighting facility, and more than 60 people, including Gyeongju Fire Department Chief Jeong Chang-hwan, Cha Seong-soo, Chairman of Korea Atomic Energy Environment Corporation, Park Seung-jik, Gyeongbuk-do councilor, Kim Dong-hae and Kim Sang-do city councilor, Jang Jae-so, senior chairman and village residents. It was conducted by supplying 110 households of firefighting facilities for housing, affixing a signboard of'fire-free safety village' at the town hall, appointing an honorary firefighter, and training on how to use firefighting facilities for village residents.

Choi Young-rak, who was appointed as an honorary firefighter, will be in charge of creating an environment for autonomous safety management, such as conducting fire drills and safety training in the village itself.

Gyeongju Fire Department Chief Jeong Chang-hwan said, "I will try to create a city safe from fire through the continuous promotion of a fire-free safety village."

Meanwhile, Gyeongju Fire Department created a fire-free safety village by supplying fire extinguishers and independent alarm-type detectors to 1,878 households in 25 villages, starting with Yangdong Folk Village in 2008, and providing balanced fire fighting services throughout Gyeongju. But they are taking the lead.
