내년 대통령선거와 함꼐 대구에서는 곽상도 의원이 사퇴를 함에 따라 자리가 빈 중남구 지역재보궐선거가 실시될 예정이다.

100일도 남지 않은 가운데 예비후보자 등록도 이미 시작됐다. 그러나 거론되는 인사들은 많은데 실제 뛰어드는 인물은 거의 없다. 

여야를 모두 합해 중남구를 노리는 인물은 10여명이 훌쩍 넘는다. 12월 2일까지 예비 후보 등록은 더불어민주당 최창희 씨가 유일하다.

100일도 남지 않은 상황에도 불구하고 지역 정가엔 예비후보자의 모습은 보이지도 않는다는 불만이 팽배하다. 기껏해야 직전 수성 을 당협위원장이었던 이인선씨와 김환열 전 대구MBC 사장 정도만이 간간이 얼굴이 보일뿐, 그 외 인물들의 모습을 찾기란 쉽지 않다. 

특히 대구시장 출마의 교두보로 중.남구를 선택할 것이란 김재원 최고위원과 이진숙, 이두아 씨 등은 대선 후보 캠프 역할에 TV를 통해 얼굴 알리기만 할 뿐, 지역민에 대한 최소한의 예우조차 보이지 않는다는 지적이다.

정가 관계자는 “재보궐도 선거인데, 원래대로라면 이 시기라면 서로 얼굴 알리기 바쁠 텐데 인물들 코빼기를 보기가 쉽지 않다”면서 “발바닥에 불이 날 정도로 현장을 뛰어도 모자랄 판에 어디들 가 있는 것인지 모르겠다. 이 사람들을 만나려면 어디로 가야 하느냐. 서울로 가야 하느냐”고 물었다.

실제, 더불어민주당 최창환 예비후보를 제외하고 대부분 거론되는 인물은 국민의힘 사람들이다. 지역 정서가 국민의힘에 기울어져 있다 보니 발로 뛰는 것보다는 윗선의 공천만 받으면 된다는 얄팍한 생각으로 중앙만 바라보고 있다는 지적이다. 공천만 받으면 당선되는데 무엇 하러 어렵게 발품을 팔러 다니고, 주민들에게 공을 들이냐는 것.

이들은 예비후보 등록에 따른 이점이 많은데도 불구하고 그러한 이점은 물론, 자신을 알릴 수 있는 공식 방법인 홍보물 발송 등도 필요 없거나 관심이 없어 보인다. 

국민의힘 소속 예비 주자들의 이 같은 행태가 이어지면서 대구시민 스스로 자신들의 행동을  돌아봐야 한다는 자성어린 자책도 나온다.

국민의힘 출마자들의 이 같은 행태가 결국은 지역 정서를 무기삼고 있는 국민의힘의 공천 관행 때문이고, 그 관행을 만든 것은 대구시민이라는 것. 여기에 지역 사람이 아닌 낙하산에 의한 공천까지 더해지면서 감시자요, 선거의 주인이어야 할 지역민들조차도 국민의힘 관행에 세뇌되어 왔던 것이 사실인 만큼, 이 못된 관행을 끊어내야 한다는 의미심장한 자성도 줄을 잇고 있다.
