지난달 29일 더불어민주당 비상대책위원회에서 제8회 지방선거 경북도지사 후보로 임미애 경북도의원을 전략공천 한데 이어 도당 공관위도 지난 3일까지 공모를 최종 마무리하고 포항, 구미 등 6개 지역 단체장과 13명의 광역의원, 63명의 기초의원과 13명의 광역·기초비례대표 후보를 공천했다.

임미애 경북도지사 후보는 이화여대 총학생회장 출신으로 경북 의성에서 농축산업에 종사하다 지난 2006년 의성군의원, 2010년 의성군의원 재선, 2015년 새정치민주연합혁신위원을 거쳐 2018년 제7회 지방선거에서 경북도의원에 당선되어 좋은 의정활동으로 호평을 받았다.

기초단체장으로는 포항시장 유성찬(전 한국환경공단 관리이사), 구미시장 장세용(현 구미시장), 상주시장 조원희(현 더불어민주당 전국농어민위원회 부위원장), 봉화군수 김남수(현 더불어민주당 중앙당 부대변인), 영양군수 김상선(전 더불어민주당 영양영덕봉화울진지역위원장), 경주시장 한영태(현 경주시의원) 후보를 공천했다.

이어 광역의원으로 포항4선거구 박성필, 포항8 이재도, 포항9 김상헌, 구미2 정세현, 구미3 허심덕, 구미5 최진욱, 구미6 류종원, 구미7 김득환, 구미8 김준열, 안동1 손진걸, 경산4 배향선, 영천2 이영수, 칠곡2 김시환 후보를 공천했다.

또한 포항시 가선거구에 임종백 후보를 비롯한 10명을 지역구 기초의원으로 공천했으며 구미시 가선거구 김재우 후보 등 10명, 경주시 나선거구 이종일 후보를 비롯한 6명을 공천하는 등 군위군, 울릉군을 제외한 모든 시군에 1명 이상의 기초의원 후보를 공천했다.

경북도의회 비례후보로는 김경숙 후보를 1번, 임기진 후보를 2번으로 공천했으며 포항시 기초의원 비례로 김은주, 경주시 이강희, 김천시 이윤미, 안동시 김정림, 구미시 1번 추은희·2번 김정수, 영주시 최선희, 상주시 오가인, 경산시 김기현, 영천시 조상임, 의성군 장은주 후보를 공천했다.

구미시장 등 4곳의 경선지역은 48시간의 재심기간을 거쳐 최종 결정되면 오는 5월19일 선거 개시일 부터 본격 선거운동에 나설 예정이다.
