윤 의원은 28일 성명을 내고 “공천 불복 자들의 불법 및 해당 행위를 즉각 중단하라”며 “거짓과 흑색선전으로 경산 시민들을 분열시키고 경산 발전을 가로막는 행위는 윤석열 정부의 성공을 바라는 ‘경산 시민’들에 대한 심각한 도전으로 반드시 심판받을 것”이라고 경고했다.

윤 의원은 “도를 넘고 있는 이들 공천 불복 자들의 위법과 해당행위는 법과 당헌당규에 따라 책임져야 할 것”이라고 강조하고 “이는 국민의힘과 윤석열 정부의 성공을 방해하는 해당행위”라고 거듭 주장했다. 

그러면서 “지난 경산시장 후보 단수 공천은 구시대 잘못된 정치 관행을 둘러싼 논란 등을 감안해 이뤄진 결정”임을 강조하며 “어느 한 사람에 의한 것이 아니라 국민의힘 경북도당 공천관리위원회에서 무기명 투표를 통한 다수결에 의해서 이뤄진 공천”이라고 시민협의체 주장에 반박했다.

윤 의원은 “‘후보자 비방죄’와 ‘허위사실 적시에 의한 명예훼손’은 엄연한 불법행위로 벌금 100만 원 이상의 형이 확정되면 피선거권이 제한되도록 엄벌하고 있음을 알아야 할 것”이라고 거듭 강조하고 윤석열 정부의 성공과 경산 발전, 대한민국의 도약을 위해 힘을 합쳐야 하는 중차대한 시기에 이들의 행위는 거짓과 흑색선전으로 경산 시민들을 분열시키고 경산 발전을 가로막는 행위는 윤석열 정부의 성공을 바라는 ‘경산 시민’들에 대한 심각한 도전“이라고 거듭 밝혔다.

 이에 윤두현 의원이 칭한 ‘공천불복자들’이라는 사람들은 즉각 반박문을 내고 윤 의원에 공개토론을 제안했다.

김성준, 김일부, 안국중, 유윤선, 정재학, 황상조, 허개열 등 무소속 시민후보 오세혁 경산시장후보 공동선대위원장 일동은 “‘도적놈이 몽둥이 든다’ ‘적반하장도 유분수’ 라는 옛 속담이 먼저 떠오른다”면서 “막장공천으로 당원과 시민을 편 가르고 민심을 분열시키며 주인을 짓밟은 머슴이 적반하장 협박을 하는 것과 다름이 없다”고 강력 반발했다.  

이들은 또 “지금은 공정과 상식을 내세운 윤석열 대통령 시대”라고 강조하고 “과연 윤두현 국회의원이 벌인 일이 공정과 상식에 부합하는지 묻고 싶다”고 밝혔다. 

그러면서 윤 의원이 설명한 공천 과정을 뒤집는 주장을 덧붙였다. 이들은 조현일 후보의 단수공천 결정에 “어떤 원칙과 기준이 적용되었는지는 전혀 설명이 없었다”고 말하면서 “포항과 경산에서 일어난 공천 횡포는 김정재 · 윤두현 두 후보의 짬짬이로 5:4가 된 것이 만천하에 알려졌는데, 이를 두고 허위주장이라고 하는 것은 과연 무엇을 가리고 싶은 것이냐”고 되물었다.

이들 내부에서는 이외에도 “윤 의원이 지역구인 경산이라는 매력적인 도시를 제대로 운영해 보려는 진정성이 있다면 지금쯤이면 공천 과정을 시민들에게 상세히 설명하고 어찌됐건 지역이 둘로 갈라지게 된 책임을 지는 차원에서라도 석고대죄라도 해야 할 판인데 오히려 시민협의체 사람들을 이용해 시민들을 겁박하고 있다”고 주장했다. 

그러면서 “ 윤 의원의 눈에는 경산의 선량한 시민들이 보이지 않는 것인지, 또, 본인 때문에 고통스러워하는 십 여명의 경산시장 출마자들과 본인이 공천한 국민의힘 경산 시장 후보 어깨의 무거운 짐은 보이지 않느냐. 사람이라면 적어도 그런 부분에서라도 최소한의 책임을 지려는 모습을 보여주는 것이 시민과 자신을 믿었던 당원과 후보들에 대한 예의”라고 직격했다.
