【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=김정재 국회의원(포항북구·국민의힘)은 4일 국회 제2간담회의실에서 ‘영일만대교 건설을 위한 정책협의회’를 개최했다고 5일 밝혔다.

이날 정책협의회는 김정재·김병욱 국회의원, 이강덕 포항시장을 비롯해 국방부, 합동참모본부, 해군본부 관계자가 참석했다.

영일만대교는 영일만을 가로질러 포항시 남구 동해면~북구 흥해읍을 잇는 총 길이 18km(해상교량 9km, 접속도로 9km)로 총사업비 1조6천189억 원에 이르는 대규모 국책사업이다.

특히 윤석열 대통령이 대선 공약으로 영일만대교 건설을 꼽으면서 영일만대교 건설이 급물살을 타기 시작했고, 이에 대한 기대감도 한껏 높아진 상태다.

영일만대교가 건설되면 국가균형발전 측면에서 남해안과 서해안에 치우친 국가 도로망을 ‘U자형’으로 만들어 동·서가 균형을 갖춰 지역 불균형을 해소할 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다.

다만, 군함 통행 등 군 작전과 관련된 일부 이견이 남아있어, 김정재 의원과 김병욱 의원, 이강덕 시장은 이번 정책협의회를 통해 국방부 등과 직접 협의에 나섰다.

김정재 의원은 “영일만대교는 국가도로망의 균형발전과 대한민국 경제성장을 위해 꼭 필요하다”면서 “국방부 등과 긴밀한 협의를 통해 영일만대교가 조속히 건설될 수 있도록 힘을 쏟겠다”고 말했다.

김병욱 의원은 “영일만대교 건설은 대통령 공약이자, 지역균형발전 측면에서 매우 중요한 사업”이라며, “경북의 동해안고속도로 완성을 위해 영일만대교 사업을 조기에 확정·추진해야 한다”라고 말했다.

한편, 국회 국토교통위원회 여당 간사로 선임된 김정재 의원은 지역 숙원사업이자 대통령 공약사업인 ‘영일만대교 건설’의 조속한 실행을 위해 국방부 외에도 국토부, 기재부 등 정부부처와 협의를 계속 이어가고 있다.
