Gyeongsangbuk-do Agricultural Center Detects 59 Companies for Illegal Distribution of Agricultural Foods on Chuseok Holidays

The Gyeongbuk branch of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service (Chief Director Kim Dong-hwan, hereafter referred to as the Gyeongbuk Agricultural Center) conducted an enforcement crackdown on illegal distribution, such as labeling the country of origin, against agri-food sales and distribution companies for Chuseok holidays from August 16 to September 9. was discovered on the 19th.

Considering the difficulties of the self-employed, this crackdown was conducted using the ‘one-point crackdown’ method, in which, after obtaining sufficient information in advance, items and industries with a history of violations or with a high probability of illegal distribution were selected and caught in a single visit.

In particular, illegal distribution was prevented in advance by the arrangement of a 'dedicated inspector' in the agricultural wholesale market. For pork, which is highly likely to be violated, an honor guard is used to purchase samples sold at a store during the evening shopping hours, and the country of origin test that can identify domestic and imported products. Checked using the kit.

By item, pork had the most with 23 cases, followed by cabbage kimchi with 8 cases, red pepper powder with 8 cases, and beef with 3 cases.

By industry, 45 general restaurants, 5 processing companies, and 4 meat sales establishments were detected the most.

During this intensive crackdown period, 1,344 companies in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do were inspected and found 25 places that falsely indicated the country of origin, 32 places that did not indicate the country of origin, and 2 places that violated the livestock product traceability system.

25 companies that falsely indicated the country of origin will be sent to the prosecution after criminal prosecution and investigation, and a fine of 21.8 million won will be imposed on 32 companies that do not indicate the country of origin and 2 companies that falsely display the livestock product history system.

Looking at the major violations of this country of origin inspection,

A rice cake shop in Uiseong-gun bought 15 kg of rice cakes made from American rice and sold it at the store, falsely indicating the country of origin as domestic.

A livestock farm in Mungyeong City was caught falsely labeling 125 kg of Chilean pork as domestic and delivering it to a restaurant.

A health center located in Cheongdo-gun sold 165 kg of black goat soup made with Australian black goat extract and foreign herbal medicines as domestic products and sold by online mail.

In order to increase the effectiveness of crackdowns, large-scale or deliberate and habitual business owners among the businesses caught this time will be subject to heavy punishment based on forced investigation in principle.

Kim Dong-hwan, head of the Gyeongbuk Agricultural Center, said, “As the probability of illegal distribution of origin of agricultural products is higher than ever due to the recent rise in food prices, we plan to continue to promote and guide companies on labeling the country of origin, and strictly crack down on them.”

Consumers are also urged to check the country of origin when purchasing agri-food through various distribution channels such as marts, traditional markets, and online, and to report by phone (1588-8112) or the website of the Agricultural Office if there is no indication of the country of origin or if there is any doubt about the indication of the country of origin. did.
