According to POSTECH, it is always necessary to ask whether universities are doing their job properly as top higher education institutions. In the current situation, which is in a transitional period in the history of civilization due to the rapid development of science and technology, such a question is asked more sharply.

With this awareness of the problem, POSTECH Institute for Convergence Civilization invites experts from leading universities in Korea to hold a symposium to diagnose the current state of university education and find ways to develop it.

This academic symposium begins with a keynote lecture by Professor Myung-Hwan Kim (Department of English Language and Literature) of Seoul National University, “The task of university education in response to climate-ecological crisis and social polarization.”

As emphasized in the title, Professor Kim aims to provide an education from an integrated academic perspective that responds to the severe climate-ecological crisis and global social polarization facing mankind, and to experience the realistic basis of hope and possibility of life. Emphasizes the importance of education to help you become a 'first mover' from a fast follower.

The presentation of the topic following the keynote lecture will be led by Professor Yong-Joo Lee of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) as chair, Su-cheol Jang, Director of the Institute for Liberal Education at Yonsei University, Yoon-Young Choi, Director of the Basic Education Center at Seoul National University, and Bong-Kwan Jeon, Dean of the Department of Digital Humanities and Social Sciences, KAIST.

Professor Jang Su-cheol of Yonsei University, with the awareness of the need for liberal arts education appropriate for the new era triggered by changes in science and technology, is an education that fosters insight through convergence between disciplines and develops the qualities to actively respond to changes in the world, and 'science Technical literacy, communication skills, value and ethical judgment, and consensus execution ability are presented as the goal of establishing liberal arts education.

Professor Yoon-Young Choi of Seoul National University explains the liberal arts curriculum system of Seoul National University Basic Education Center, which promotes critical thinking based on communication and empathy between students and professors and fosters creativity that creates new values, under the banner of ‘student-centered liberal arts education’.

Professor Jeon Bong-kwan of KAIST is planning to nurture convergence talents who will respond to the post-AI era by implementing a liberal arts curriculum consisting of three areas of 'general, core, and convergence' by overhauling the curriculum in a way that converges the humanities and social sciences and science and technology. suggest a way
