한편, 이번 연구는 한국연구재단 기초연구사업과 삼성전자의 지원을 받아 이뤄졌으며 최근 국제 학술지 ‘JACS(Journal of the American Chemical Society)’에 최근 게재됐다.

The POSTECH research team succeeded in synthesizing a two-dimensional conductive metal-organic framework for the first time

POSTECH (Pohang University of Science and Technology, President Kim Moo-hwan) is a research team led by Professor Seon-ah Park and Hee-cheol Choi from the Department of Chemistry, Professor Myung-geun Choi from the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Advanced Materials Science and Professor Ji-hoon Shim from the Department of Chemistry and Advanced Materials Science, as a joint research project with Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. It was announced on the 18th that it had succeeded in synthesizing the thin film of the skeleton.

According to POSTECH, Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) is rapidly emerging as a core material that can be used in various fields such as gas separation and storage, drug delivery, and catalyst because it is easy to separate or absorb substances due to its unique porous structure. .

Conventional conductive metal-organic frameworks are mainly made by solvothermal synthesis. However, with this method, the skeleton can only be obtained in the form of a powder, so a complicated process was required to produce it in the form of a thin film applicable to the industry.

The research team succeeded in synthesizing a conductive metal-organic framework (Cu3(C6O6)2) thin film with a large area through a vapor phase reaction by applying the chemical vapor deposition method, which is mainly used for synthesizing thin films in the semiconductor industry. In particular, this thin film is not only deposited with a uniform thickness, but also has a smooth surface to maximize performance when making electronic devices.

As a result of the study, a micrometer (㎛, 1 millionth of a meter) sized electronic device made of a thin film recorded a high electrical conductivity of 92.95S/cm (Siemens/centimeter). It is about 73 times the electrical conductivity (1.26 S/cm) of a conductive metal-organic framework made by solvothermal synthesis.

This result is a result of remarkably increasing the electrical conductivity, which has been shown to be low in the powder form, and is expected to be a clue to accurately grasp the potential properties of the conductive metal-organic framework. In addition, since it is made in the form of a thin film, it can be usefully used in the manufacture of various electronic devices such as field effect transistors, chemical resistance sensors, and electrochemical catalysts.

Meanwhile, this research, which was recently published in the international academic journal 'JACS (Journal of the American Chemical Society)', was supported by the Basic Research Project of the National Research Foundation of Korea and Samsung Electronics.
