대구 북구청은 사수동 일대 금호강 둔치 10만 5,465㎡에 총 사업비 25억원을 들여 파크골프장(36홀)과 야구장(1개소)을 포함한 체육공원시설 조성 사업을 진행 중이며 2024년 5월 완공 예정이다.    

이에 금호강 난개발 저지 대경공대위는 22일 오전 10시 30분 북구청 앞에서 기자회견을 열고 "금호강의 둔치는 야생 생물들의 집"이라며 그들의 집을 약탈하는 행위를 즉각 멈추라고 촉구했다. 

단체는 "금호강 일대 둔치와 습지들이 무차별적 개발로 하나 둘 사라지고 있다. 그로 인해 금호강을 기반으로 살아가는 야생생물들의 생존에 심각한 위기가 닥쳐오고 있다"고 비판했다.

이들은 나아가 "북구청은 마지막 남은 둔치마저 개발하겠다고 나서는 중"이라며" 멸종위기 야생생물을 비롯한 151종의 야생생물들이 모두 사라지기 전에 더 이상의 개발을 멈춰야한다"고 주장했다.

그러면서 "벌들이 사라진 자리에 우리의 삶의 자리도 사라지듯이 이들 야생생물들이 살지 못하는 땅에서 인간들 또한 살 수 없다는 사실을 명심해야 한다." 며 "해도 그만 안해도 그만인 쓸데없는 사업을 야생의 공간에 절대로 밀어 붙여선 안된다"고 말했다.

단체는"북구청은 잘못 채워진단추를 다시 바로 잡는다는 심정으로 금호강 개발 계획을 철회할 것"을 촉구했다.
