【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=더불어민주당 전해철 의원이 대구를 찾아 이상민 행정안전부 장관의 거취 등에 언급했다. 

30일 ‘아시아포럼 21 초청 릴레이 정책 토론회’에 참석한 전 의원은 이태원 참사 책임과 관련해 “장관이 임기제가 아닌 이유가 있다. 늘 그만둘 때를 생각하고 있어야 하기 때문”이라며 이상민 행안부 장관의 사퇴가 바람직하다는 우회적인 입장을 제시했다.

그러면서 “빠르면 빠를수록 좋았을 것이다. 다만, 책임을 누가 지느냐에 대한 명확한 해답이 나온 것은 아니다. 지금 수사를 하고 있다. 여기서도 억울한 분이 나오면 안되겠다. 그렇지만 책임이라는 것은 반드시 법률적으로 책임을 지는 것만은 아니다”며 이 장관의 정무적 책임을 우회했다.

전 의원은 이어 “엄청난 분들이 사실은 그 참사로 인해서 돌아가셨다. 국민들이 화가 나 있다. 엄청난 절망감과 분노가 있는데 그렇다면 그걸 법률적 책임만으로 될까 하는 문제가 있다”고 강조하고 “ 또, 책임져야 할 분이 제도 개선이나 진상규명을 하고 있으면 안 된다”고 지적했다. 

국정조사를 하기로 해놓고 시작도 하기 전 이 장관의 해임건의안을 요구하는 것은 어불성설이라는 국민의힘 주장과 관련해서는 “국민의힘과 함께 합의하고 협의해서 국정조사를 하게 된 것은 다행”이라면서도 “책임을 질 분들이 책임을 지지 않고 있으면 되겠느냐, 그 책임이라는 것에 대해서 아무런 응답이 없는 것....그건 문제 아니겠느냐. 그런 면에서 이 책임을 묻고자 하는 것이 ‘옳지 않다‘는 주장에는 동의할 수 없다. 지금 이 상황이 형사적인 상황만은 아니지 않나”라며 거듭 정치적, 정무적 책임을 강조했다.  

다만, 그는 “지금 국정조사를 위해 조사 대상도 정하고 시기도 정하는 등 방식을 정해야 할 시기에 해임건의안을 내 정쟁거리를 만들 수 있다는 지적에 대해서는 어느 정도 수긍할 수 있다”고 말하면서도 “지금은 정말 단호해야 하는 상황이다. (국민의힘이)진 상 규명에 대한 의지가 있다면, 제도 개선에 대한 의지가 있다면 분명하고 빠르게 필요가 있다”고 강조했다.

당 대표 출마 질문에는 특유의 미소와 함께 즉답보다는 우회적 방법으로 분명한 출마 의지를 나타냈다. 그는 서두에서 “정치는 결국 사회적 갈등을 풀어내는 일이다. 10여 이상 당에서 몸을 담고 정치활동을 하면서 정당 개혁과 정치(선거)개혁이 필요하다고 생각해왔다. 이를테면 분명한 당헌 당규가 있음에도 그때마다 달라지는 행위들이다. 우리 스스로가 개혁해야 할 필요성이 있다. (제게) 역할이 있으면 늘 하고 싶은 생각이 있다”면서 “다만 지금은 말씀드린 바와 같이 우리 당으로서는 굉장히 어려운 상황이고, 또 윤석열 정부의 무리한 국정 운영에 있어서 이런 부분들을 지적하고 대안을 제시하는 데 치중할 때라고 생각한다”고 조심스럽게 생각을 털어놨다. 

한편, 전 의원은 (“이렇게 어려운 상황에서) 윤석열 정부가 잘했으면 한다”는 바램을 전했다. 그러면서 “윤석열 정부가 무리하게 하는 일들이 있다”며 걱정도 했다. 

전 의원은 “계파 정치는 나에게 맞지도, 그럴 힘과 능력도 없다”면서 “다만 노무현의 가치는 평가받고 싶은 마음이 있다”고 전했다. 그러면서 노무현 전 대통령의 ’대연정‘ 정치 철학을 언급하기도 했다. 2005년 당시 노 전 대통령은 자신을 지지한 지지자들의 바람과는 달리 총리직을 야당 대표에 제안했다. 당시 이 같은 제안은 지역주의를 타파해보고자 하는 노 전 대통령의 정치 철학이 배경이었다. 공동연립정부가 무산되기는 했지만 이 같은 시도는 지역주의와 대화와 타협을 거부하고 있는 우리 정치에 큰 과제로 남았다.

전 의원은 “그와 같은(대연정의 정신) 협치와 대화와의 타협 정치를 이루지 못한다면 대한민국 정치가 굉장히 어렵다. 노 전 대통령의 대연정 제시 이후 우리 정치는 갈등을 해소하기 위한, 제대로 된 정치를 하기 위한 노력들이 실제 이뤄진 것이 없다”고 강조하고 “여야정 국정상설협의체조차도 이루지 못한 갈등 구조의 정치를 바꾸는 것이 필요하다”고 역설했다.
