‘헝가리식 저출산방지 대책안’을 제시했던 나경원 저출산고령사회부위원장을 맹비난했던 것을 두고도 유 전 의원은 지난 대선 경선에서 원희룡 현 국토부 장관과의 양자 토론 당시 상황을  사례로 들며 ”당시 홍 시장은 대출 탕감 정책이라고 해서 4천만 원....그걸 종이에 써서 줄줄 읽으면서 4천만 원을 대출해 주고 첫 아이 낳으면 이자를 면제해 주고, 둘째 아이 낳으면 3분의 1을 면제해 주고, 셋째 아이 낳으면 4천만 원 전액을 탕감해 준다. 그리고 넷째 아이를 낳게 되면 정부가 소득세를 평생 면제해 준다. 그리고는 스웨덴 어쩌구 읽으면서 이 방향으로 가야 된다고 이야기했던 사람이 홍 시장 본인“이라며 ”영상이 지금도 그대로 남아 있다. 자기가 말했던 거는 다 잊어버리고 지금 와 가지고 나경원 부위원장을 좌파 포퓰리스트처럼 몰아가는데.. 정치인이 이래선 안된다.“고 일침했다.
