【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=홍준표 대구시장과 유승민 전 의원간의 난타전이 이어지고 있는 가운데 13일에는 유 전의원이 홍 시장의 기억력에 심각한 문제가 있는 것 아니냐고 직격했다. 

잠재적 국민의힘의 차기 대권주자 중 한 사람으로 꼽히는 유승민 전 의원은 이날 홍준표 시장이 본인을 향해 SNS에 올린 글에 반박하며 이같이 말했다.

홍 시장은 유 전 의원의 반박에 앞서 SNS에 '2018년 6월 지방선거를 앞두고 유승민 의원 등 바른정당은 문(재인) 정권은 겁이 나 공격하지 않고 나만 집중 비방하면서 막말, 보수의 품격 운운했고 급기야 지방선거 유세조차 못 나오게 했다'고 주장했다. 

유 전 의원은 홍 시장이 실제로는 당시 상황에 대한 팩트를 알면서도 고의로 거짓말을 하는 것이라고 주장했다. 지난 아시아포럼 21 토론회에서는 (홍 시장이) 이제까지 자신 또는 주변 인물을 향해 디스해왔던 게 한 두 번은 아니지만 같은 정치인으로 웬만하면 참고 있었다고 토로하기도 했다. 

유 전 의원은 “홍 시장은 2018년 당시 자신이 자유한국당 내부에서 당했던 일을 내게 덮어씌우고 있는데 불과 5년 전의 중요한 일들을 기억하지 못한다면 기억력에 심각한 문제가 있는 것“이라고 의문을 제기했다. 

그러면서 "난 2017년 11월~2018년 2월 바른정당 대표, 2018년 2~6월 바른미래당 공동대표로서 문재인 정권의 한중정상회담, 천안함 전범 김영철 방한, 대북특사단의 김정은 면담, 4·27 판문점 선언, 문정인 특보의 한미동맹 해체 발언, 트럼프-김정은의 싱가폴 회담 등 문재인 정부의 위험한 대북정책에 대해 강력히 비판했고, 당시 모든 기록이 그대로 남아 있다"고 주장했다.

또 "2018년 3월 7일 문재인 대통령과 여야 5당 대표의 청와대 회동에 참석, 대북특사단의 평양 방문을 전후해 벌어진 일들에 대해 문 대통령 면전에서 강력히 비판했다. 이 회동에서 홍준표 자유한국당 대표는 제대로 공부도, 준비도 안 된 상태로 와서 문 대통령 앞에서 건성으로 몇 마디 했을 뿐"이라고 일침했다. 

유 전 의원은 그러면서 ”(이런) 팩트를 알면서도 고의로 거짓말을 하는 것이라면 이런 저질 정치인은 퇴출되어야 마땅하다"고 했다. 그러면서 “오늘 홍 시장의 새빨간 거짓말을 접하고 이런 저질 정치인을 퇴출시켜야 한국 정치가 발전하겠다는 점을 새삼 느낀다"며 ”습관성 말 바꾸기를 넘어 이젠 거짓말까지 지어내는 홍 시장 모습을 보니 '카멜레홍'이란 비판도 부족해 보인다“고 꼬집었다.

두 사람의 불편한 관계는 이게 처음은 아니다. 두 사람 모두 20년이 훌쩍 넘는 정치인의 길을 걸으면서 곳곳에서 부딪히곤 했다. 두 사람 모두 대권을 꿈꾸는 공통점을 지니고 있고, 대구라는 보수정치의 왕좌를 노리고 있는 점도 같다. 굳이 두 사람의 차이라고 한다면, 유승민 전 의원이 대구에서 태어나 대구가 키운 보수 적통이라면, 홍준표 시장은 정치적으로는 대구 오아좌를 노리는 서자 출신이라는 점은 다르다. 

정가는 두 사람의 티격태격하는 모습이 당분간은 더 지속될 것으로 전망하고 있다. 정가 관계자는 ”홍 시장의 꿈은 대권이다. 지금의 대구시장으로는 만족하지 못할 수밖에 없다. 끊임없이 중앙정치에 댓글을 달고 저격하는 이유다. 그 습관을 당분간은 버리지 못할 것같다. 그렇다면 누군가와는 끊임없이 충돌할 수밖에 없다. 다만, 그것이 대구시에 득인지, 독인지는 따져봐야 할 문제 “라고 말했다. 

이어 ”이에 반해 유승민 전 의원은 전당대회 출마 고민을 두고 갑자기 홍 시장과 전쟁이라도 하려는 듯 거침이 없다. 수위도 점점 높아지고 있다. 박근혜 전 대통령의 탄핵을 두고 미움을 받아왔던 지난 세월을 대구시민들로부터 재평가받으려는 듯 보인다. 그런 상황에서 홍 시장이 번번이 끼어들고 있다고 판단하는 듯 보인다“고 분석했다.
