【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구대학교 직업재활학과에서 사제지간으로 만났던 교수와 제자가 장애인의 날 기념식에서 나란히 국민훈장과 국무총리 표창을 받아 눈길을 끌고 있다.

지난 20일 보건복지부는 63컨벤션센터에서 ‘제43회 장애인의 날 기념식’을 개최하고 장애인의 직업 재활에 기여한 이들에게 표창을 수여했다.

이날 행사에서는 대구대 직업재활학과 나운환 교수와 이범식 동문이 국민훈장 목련장과 국무총리 표창을 각각 수여 받으며 화제가 되었다.

나운환 교수는 1990년 장애인고용촉진 등에 관한 법률이 제정되기 위한 장애인 단체 중심의 공동대책위원회 위원으로 참여했고, 장애인 일자리 확대를 위한 법률 제‧개정에 힘쓰며 장애인 직업재활에 기여했다.

뿐만 아니라 현장에서 체계적인 직업재활과 유급의 고용기회를 마련하는 노력으로 지역 장애인의 인권신장에 기여했다는 평가를 받고 있다.

이범식 동문은 22살의 나이에 사고로 양팔과 오른쪽 다리가 절단된 중증장애인으로 2003년 10월부터 한국교통장애인협회 경산시지회장으로 재임하며 장애의 후천적 주요 원인인 교통사고 예방을 위한 다양한 활동을 펼치고 있다. 아울러 지역 내 장애인 복지와 장애인의 직업재활, 지역사회에서의 장애 예방활동 등 장애인의 복지 향상에 힘쓰며 장애를 극복하는 모습으로 귀감이 되고 있다.

국민훈장을 받은 나운환 교수는 “이번 수상은 개인의 영광이 아니라 그동안 대구대와 재활과학대학이 이어 온 장애인에 대한 헌신과 노력의 결과를 대신해서 받은 것이라 생각한다”면서 “특히 제자와 함께 수상한 것에 대해 더욱 특별한 의미가 있다”고 말했다.

이어 “35년 전 고인이 되신 이태영 대구대 초대 총장이 몸담았던 봉사 단체 일을 제가 대신해 이어오면서 오늘 같은 영광스러운 일이 있을 수 있었고, 그 동안 도움을 주신 모든 분들에게 감사드린다”고 덧붙였다.

Since October 2003, he has served as the president of the Gyeongsan-si branch of the Korea Transportation Disabled Association, and has been carrying out various activities to prevent traffic accidents, which are the main cause of acquired disabilities.
