【브레이크뉴스 문경】이성현 기자=경북 문경시에 소재한 육가공 제조업체 화재 현장에서 1월 31일 인명 구조를 하던 소방관 2명이 순직하는 안타까운 사고가 발생했다.

1일 경북 소방본부에 따르면 순직한 구조대원은 문경소방서 119구조구급센터 소속 김 모 소방교(27세)와 박 모 소방사(35세)다.

두 구조대원은 은 공장 건물 안에서 인명 검색을 하던 중 급격한 연소 확대로 건물 내부에 고립되었고, 이어 건물이 붕괴되면서 탈출하지 못하는 사고를 당했다.

경상북도 소방본부는 고립된 소방관을 구하기 위하여 최선을 다하였으나 결국 2명의 소방관 모두 순직한 채로 발견됐다.

순직한 김 소방교는 2019년도에 공개경쟁채용으로 임용되어 재난 현장에서 위기에 처한 국민을 구하겠다는 투철한 사명감을 가지고 화재대응능력 취득 등 꾸준히 자신의 역량을 키워왔으며 2023년에는 소방공무원들 사이에서도 취득하기가 어렵기로 소문난 인명구조사 시험에 합격해 구조대에 자원했다.

박 소방사는 특전사에서 근무하던 중 ‘사람을 구하는 일이 지금보다 큰 보람을 느낄 수 있겠다’ 는 마음으로 2022년도에 구조분야 경력경쟁채용에 지원하여 임용되었다. 아직 미혼인 박 소방사는 평소에 ‘나는 소방과 결혼하였다’고 이야기할 만큼 조직에 대한 애착이 남달랐다.

이번 사고로 순직한 대원들은 모든 재난 현장에서 솔선수범하는 자세로 구조 활동에 임하여 선배에서부터 후배에 이르기까지 높은 신망을 얻고 있었다.

특히, 지난해 7월 경북 북부지역을 강타한 집중호우로 인하여 실종된 문경시, 예천군 실종자를 찾기 위한 68일간의 수색 활동에 두 사람 모두 누구보다 적극적인 자세로 임하여 실종자 발견에 지대한 공헌을 했다.

경상북도 소방본부는 순직한 소방공무원들에게 애도와 경의를 표하고 ‘경상북도 순직 소방공무원 등 장례 지원에 관한 조례’에 따른 장례와 국립현충원 안장, 1계급 특진 및 옥조근정훈장 추서를 추진한다.
