대구시교육청에 따르면 이번 업무 협약의 주요 내용은 ▲공교육 내 IB 프로그램 운영을 위한 IB 본부와의협력, ▲IB 도입ㆍ운영 우수 사례 교류, ▲IB 운영을 위한 교원 연수 공동 협력 등이다.

이번 협약으로 대구시교육청이 2019년부터 미래교육을 위한 선도적인 학교 교육의 모델로도입해 운영하고 있는 국제 바칼로레아(IB) 프로그램이 올해부터 수도권을 포함하여전국적으로 확대 운영된다.

대구시교육청은 이번 업무협약을 토대로 올해부터 7개 시도교육청과 IB 프로그램운영 정책, 교원 연수 등을 공동으로 추진해 나갈 계획이다.

대구시교육청은 지난 2019년, 미래 사회를 대비하기 위해서는 창의적으로 문제를해결하고 새로운 상황에 능동적으로 대처하는 학습자의 자기주도성과 학습력을 증진시키는 교수학습이 필요하다는 신념을 가지고, 국내에서 최초로 국제 바칼로레아(IB) 프로그램을 도입했다.

2024년 2월 현재 전국에서 가장 많은 24교의 IB 월드스쿨을 운영하고 있으며, 매년 5곳 내외의 학교가 IB 월드스쿨의 지위를 획득하고 있다.

특히, 대구지역 IB 월드스쿨 3교(경북대사대부고, 대구외국어고, 포산고)에서 IB 디플로마를 공부한 DP 1기 이수생들이 2024년 대입전형에서 수도권 주요 대학,지방 거점 국립대학, 해외 명문 대학에 골고루 합격하는 등 학생들의 탐구학업 역량이 개인별로 크게 신장되었으며, 이러한 교육적 성과를 대학으로부터 인정받게되면서 전국적인 관심을 받았다.
