【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=국민의힘 공천관리위원회가 대구 동구군위갑과 북구 갑 지역에 대하여 국민추천제 도입을 결정한 데 대하여 지역 정가의 반발이 거세지고 있다. 

6일 정가는 “국민추천제의 정체”와 “국민추천제 도입 의도”, 그리고 “그 대상이 왜 TK 여야 하는지”를 두고 중앙당에 깊은 의혹의 눈길을 보냈다. 

본지가 이날 하루 정가 관계자들을 두루 만나거나 연락했지만, ‘국민추천제’를 알고 있다고 답하는 국민의힘 관계자는 아무도 없었다. 오히려 당직자들까지도 언론에 되묻는 헤프닝이 벌어지기도 했다. 

정가, 국민추천제 “지역 무시” “중앙당 특정인 내리꽂기” “지방 정치 말살” 의도 다분

지역 사회와 국민의힘 지역 당원들은 ‘아무도 알지 못하고, 심지어 기준이나 시행 방식조차도 발표되지 않은 국민추천제가 지역에서 활동해 온 정치 지망생들을 제치기 위한 제스처 아닌지’를 크게 의심했다. 겉으로는 국민 눈높이를 운운하며 속으로는 중앙이 정해놓은 특정한 누군가를 내리꽂기 위한 술수라고 보는 것이다.  

국민의힘 당원 A씨는 “지금 이 타이밍에 왜 우리 지역만 국민추천제를 한다는 것인지 깊은 의구심이 있다”며 “겉은 국민이 추천하는... 국민 눈높이를 강조하고 있지만 실제 실행하는 단계에서 중앙당이 꼽고자 하는 사람을 내리꽂을 가능성이 아주 농후하다”고 주장했다. 

실제 국민의힘은 이 제도를 실행하는 과정에 신청하는 이들의 프라이버시를 위해 신청자를 비공개한다고 밝혔다. 이에 대하여 국민의힘 당직자 B 씨는 “겉으로는 맞는 말이다. 그러나 (국민추천 경선 과정을) 당원들이 의심하는 상황이 발생하면 비공개 결정 자체가 의혹의 첫 출발점이 될 수 있다”고 주장했다. 누가 신청했는지, (경선이) 어떻게 돌아가는 것인지 국민이나 당원들은 아무것도 모를 수 있는만큼 중앙당이 마음만 먹으면 비밀리에 특정인을 내리꼽아도 아무도 모른다는 것.

선거에 출마한 예비후보자들 역시 이번 결정에 깊은 유감을 나타내고 있다. 동구군위갑에 출마한 임재화 예비후보는 “누구를 위한 국민추천제인가?” 라는 의문을 제기하며 “2024 국민의힘 공천 화두는 ‘공정 공천’이다” 라고 주장했다.

그는 “윤석열 대통령이나 한동훈 국민의힘 비대위원장은 법을 집행하는 검사 출신이기에 공정함에 대한 기대감과 신뢰는 여느 정치인들과 다르다” 며 “‘과거와 똑 같은 국민의힘’, ‘끼리끼리 정치’, ‘혁신을 가장한 속임수 공천’ 등의 비판이 그대로 와닿는 상황”이라고 비판했다. 그러면서 “국민추천제가 공정한 것이라면 그에 합당한 절차와 공정성을 담보해야 한다. 아니면 그냥 ‘내리찍기’, ‘지역 무시’, ‘시민 무시’ 그 이상도 이하도 아니다”라고 거듭 강조했다.

그러면서 “(그래도 국민추천제를 해야 한다면) 공정함을 담보해야 한다. 예를 들어 다른 지역에서 아무런 연고 없고 활동조차 하지 않은 인사가 신인이라는 미명하에 꽂히는 낙하산이나, 지역 인사 중에서도 기회나 엿보다 노력 없이 한 자리 하겠다는 정도의 기회주의 인사 등은 모두 배격하고, 그 사이에 지역을 위해 노력한 예비후보들 중심으로 선정될 수 있도록 공정하게 운영해야 한다”고 꼬집었다.

지역 사회도 “동구군위을 경선 결정 다음으로 잘못된 결정“ 경고 

정가뿐 아니라 지역 사회도 국민의힘 공관위의 이번 결정을 “자기 사람 내리찍기”라고 규정하는 눈치다. 현역 국회의원의 컷오프 여부를 떠나 지역에서 활동해 온 지역 정치인을 의도적으로 제치려는 행위에 대하여는 단호한 대처와 입장표명 이상의 행동이 있어야 한다는 중론도 모아지고 있다.  

한 관계자는 “이번 국민의힘 공관위의 국민추천제 결정은 동구군위을 지역구 경선에 이재만, 서호영 두 예비후보를 포함시키면서 본인들이 마련한 기준(약속)을 본인들 스스로가 파기한 것 다음으로 잘못된 결정”이라며 “국민의힘 공관위는 스스로 본인들을 부정하는 모순에 빠져 있다”고 꼬집었다. 

국민의힘 공관위에 대한 지역 사회 반발, 그 첫 단추는 정가를 중심으로 시작될 예정이다. 대구 지역 국민의힘 당원들은 7일 당 공관위의 결정에 항의하는 집회를 예고하고 있다. 그리고, 이들 당원들 외에 시민 사회에서도 곧 입장문 이상을 준비하고 있는 것으로 관측되고 있다.
