지난 6일 국민의미래에 비례대표 후보자 공천 신청을 한 홍원화 총장은 비판 여론이 일자 바로 다음날인 7일 “22대  국회의원 비례대표 신청을 철회했다”고 밝혔다.

경북대 교수회는 “홍 총장이 비례대표 후보자 공천 신청을 철회 했다고 해서 신청 자체가 없어지지는 않는다”며 “사실이 보도된 후 신청을 철회한 것을 보아 이는 단순한 실수가 아니다”라고 꼬집었다.

이들은 “경북대학교 구성원들은 홍원화 총장이 4년간 성실하게 총장직을 수행할 것이라 믿었다”며 “그러나 홍원화 총장은 임기 중 그 믿음을 저버리고 비례대표 후보자 공천을 신청했다”고 질타를 이어갔다.
