20일 오후 경북대 글로벌플라자 잔디광장에서 기자회견을 개최한 경북대 동아리 '오버 더 블랭크'가 “대통령의 채 상병 사망사건 진상규명을 위한 특검법 수용을 촉구한다”고 밝혔다.

이들은 “대민지원에 나선 채 상병은 윗선의 부당한 지시로 거센 물살 속에 구명조끼도 없이 들어가 결국 목숨을 잃었다”며 “책임 소재가 명확한 명령 체계 하에서 일어난 사건이기에 조사가 길어질 이유가 없는데도 1년 가까이 수사는 지지부진한 상황”이라고 지적했다.

그러면서 “대통령은 어떤 명확한 해명도 내놓지 않고, 본 사건의 수사를 촉진하고자 추진된 특검법을 거부하려고만 하고있다”며 “만약 대통령이 특검법을 거부하면, 그때는 우리가 대통령을 거부할 수 있음을 내보일 것“이라고 경고했다.

이날 발언에 나선 경북대 윤리교육과 김상천 학생은 “채 상병 사망 사건과 관련 수사의 진행을 보면서, 저를 포함한 수많은 청년들 특히 군 입대를 앞둔 청년들은, 끝없는 불안과 불신을 느낀다”며 “나라를 위해 헌신한 청춘이 나라로부터 배신당하는 일이 다시는 없도록, 특검법의 통과와 수사에 적극적으로 협조할 책임이 대통령에게 있다”고 강조했다.

이어 사회학과 이채은 학생은 “채상병 특검법이 고 채상병의 죽음을 애도하는 것을 넘어 앞으로를 살아갈 우리들의 생명권이 보장되는 안전한 사회를 만들어가는 데 의미있다고 생각한다”며 “해당 사건의 진상 규명과 앞으로 우리가 살아갈 생명권이 존중되는 안전사회를 위해 계속 연대하겠다”고 덧붙였다.
