장마이후 폭염으로 인한 수온과 일조량이 증가하면서 유해남조류가 증식하기에 적합한 환경이 조성된 것으로 판단된다.

이에 영천시는 조류가 분포하지 않는 심층에서 상수원수를 취수하고 조류경보제 발령에 대비해 선제적으로 시설을 정비하고, 정수처리 약품 투입량을 조절해 정수처리를 강화하는 등 조치에 나섰다.

최기문 영천시장은 “올해 폭염이 지속됨에 따라 조류의 대량증식이 우려된다”며, “관심단계보다 한 단계 높은 경계단계 수준의 철저한 조류 대응체계를 구축해 깨끗하고 안전한 수돗물 생산에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
