지난 27일 홍준표 대구시장은 자신의 페이스북에 “지난 3년간 끌어오던 지방행정 개혁이 생각이 서로 달라 무산된 것은 참 아쉽다”며 “경북도가 대구시의 최종안을 28일까지 받아들이지 않으면 행정통합 추진을 장기과제로 넘기겠다”는 입장을 밝혔다.

이에 대구참여연대는 28일 성명을 통해 “시·도민을 우민으로 여기는 제왕적 사고가 아니라면 있을 수 없는 행태”라며 강한 비판에 나섰다.

이들은 “대구시는 대구경북특별시에 대한 특별조치법으로 여러 가지 특별조치가 시행되면 한반도 제2의 도시가 된다고 현혹했다”며 “거창하게 선동하다가 자기 맘대로 안 되자 일방적으로 무산을 선언했다”고 질타를 이어갔다.

그러면서 “시·도민을 우롱하고 갈등을 야기했으며 행정력을 낭비한 책임자가 마지막까지 무례했다”며 “즉각 시·도민에게 제대로, 공식적으로 사과하라”고 강조했다.

더불어민주당 대구시당은 “아니면 말고 행정이 몇 번째인지 모르겠다”며 “대구·경북 행정통합이 두 달짜리 이벤트인가”라고 직격했다.

이들은 “홍 시장이 이번 것을 만회하려고 꼼수를 동원할 것”이라며 “성서공단 태양광 사업, 국가로봇테스트필드, 취수원 이전 등 만회 전시 행정 쇼를 펼치는 것에 대해 경고한다”고 덧붙였다. 

정의당 대구시당도 비판에 합세했다. 이들은 홍준표 대구시장에 대해 “결국 홍 시장 혼자 시작한 행정통합이 홍 시장 혼자 무산 선언으로 끝맺음했다”며 “논의 테이블에 올려진 사안을 자기 마음에 들지 않는다고 상대와 협의 없이 일방적으로 무산을 선언하는 것은 도가 지나쳐도 한참 지나친 것”이라고 말했다.

이어 “지난 3개월 동안 대구시는 ‘대구경북이 통합하면 한반도 제2의 도시가 됩니다!’라는 홍보문구를 수많은 매체와 공간에 게재해 시민을 현혹시키고 갈등을 야기하고 상당한 행정력을 낭비했다”며 “그에 대한 책임을 분명히 져야할 것이다”고 경고했다.
