지난 1일 우리공화당 제4차 전국대의원대회에서 새롭게 선출된 조원진 대표는 “대구시와 경상북도의 행정통합에 대한 희망찬 기대가 큰 실망으로 바뀌었다”며 홍준표 대구시장의 일방적인 대구‧경북 행정통합 무산 선언을 비판하고 나섰다.

조원진 대표는 “시·도민과 시·도의회와 상의도 없이 일방적으로 추진된 행정통합의 실패는 예견된 일”이라며 “홍준표 시장은 대구시와 경상북도의 미래를 결정할 중차대한 사안을 개인의 정치적인 사리사욕에 활용한 측면이 있다”고 꼬집었다.

이어 “행정통합 제안에서 무산까지 일련의 과정을 보면 홍준표 시장의 즉흥적이고 제왕적인 정치 스타일이 그대로 보인다”고 질타했다.

그러면서 “우리공화당은 한국 경제의 고질적인 문제의 원인으로 밝혀진 수도권 집중을 해소하기 위해 ‘4+3 메가시티’로의 지방행정체제 개편을 제안한 바 있다”며 “그렇기에 홍준표 시장의 행정통합 일방 파기는 매우 아쉽다”고 말했다.

조 대표는 “지금이라도 홍준표 시장이 개인적인 욕심을 버리고 행정통합의 장에 다시 나와야 한다”고 덧붙였다.
