5일 영천시에 따르면 ‘스포츠 산업을 통한 지역상권 활성화’를 목표로 지역 체류형 스포츠 대회 유치에 집중해 8월까지 전국 및 도단위 대회 9개와 전지훈련을 겸한 대회 3개를 유치했으며, 선수단과 관계자 3만여 명이 지역을 방문해 최대 103억원 정도의 직접‧간접 효과를 거뒀다.

경제적 파급효과 분석기준으로는 대회 기간 방문 인원 총인원을 산정한 후 1인 1일 국내여행 평균 지출액(경북 66,000원, 문화체육관광부 2023년 국민여행조사 통계편 p.197)을 통해 직접효과를 산출하고, 직접효과를 기준으로 대표적 경제활동 분석방법인 산업연관분석을 통해 간접효과(지역 대외적 이미지 향상, 인프라 구축·개선, 스포츠 산업과 연관되는 주변 경제효과)를 분석해 직·간접 효과를 합산했다.

‘24년 8월까지 12개 대회에 총 10억 6천만원을 지원해 숙식비, 교통비 등 직접효과는 최소 15억원에서 최대 19억 7천만원, 간접효과는 최소 63억원에서 최대 83억 3천만으로, 합산하면 최소 78억에서 최대 103억원 정도 경제유발 효과가 생긴 것으로 추정된다.

대회를 세부적으로 분석해 본 결과 체류 기간이 연속 5일 이상, 가족 등 응원 관중이 많은 학생부 엘리트 대회와 전지훈련 팀을 유치하는 것이 지역 경제에 미치는 파급효과가 큰 것으로 나타났다.

시는 2025년도에도 지역의 강점인 교통과 기후, 체육시설 등 우수한 스포츠 인프라를 최대한 활용해 전국태권도대회, 전국학생배구대회 등 엘리트 대회를 적극 유치하고, 유도, 리틀야구, 유소년 축구 등 전지훈련 팀 유치를 위한 스포츠 마케팅에 집중할 계획이다.

최기문 영천시장은 “스포츠대회 개최를 통해 지역에 방문한 선수들과 관계자들이 지역에 체류하면서 숙식, 교통, 서비스업 이용 등 다방면에서 경제효과를 창출해, 지역경제에 큰 기여를 하고있다”면서 “앞으로도 지역의 강점을 활용한 스포츠 마케팅을 통해 많은 대회를 유치하도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
