【브레이크뉴스 문경】이성현 기자=문경에코월드가 지난 10월 31일 문화체육관광부와 한국문화관광연구원에서 주최한 ‘2024 찾아가는 지역관광개발 워크숍’에서 지역관광개발 사업 우수사례로 선정되어 대상인 문화체육관광부 장관상을 수상했다.

4일 문경시에 따르면 이번 수상은 2024년 전국 34개 지역관광개발사업 중에서 지역의 특성을 잘 살려 지역 관광 활성화에 기여한 우수 지자체의 관광개발사업을 선정했으며 문경시 문경에코월드가 대상을 수상했다.

문경시는 문경에코월드 개발단계에서 가족단위 관광객이라는 명확한 표적시장을 기반으로 사업을 추진했으며 놀이를 통해 생태를 이해하는 직접 체험 콘텐츠 등 경쟁력 있는 체험 상품을 준비했다.

또한, 문경에코월드 운영 중 문화체육관광부와 한국문화관광연구원의 평가 및 컨설팅 의견을 반영하여 문경시는 각종 공모사업에 지원해 지속적인 콘텐츠 개발과 테마파크 주제를 강화하고 인근 관광지 및 지역 주민과의 연계성 강화, 관광 트렌드에 맞춘 공간 운영을 위해 노력했다.

특히, 지역 청년들이 참여해 생태·환경·문화를 주제로 관광객 집객뿐만 아니라 시민들과 함께 할 수 있는 친환경 페스티벌, 영화제, 탄광문화행사, 매거진 제작, 대한민국역사박물관 협력 전시 등을 직접 기획하고 실행했다.

문경에코월드는 경상북도 문경시 가은읍 일원에 위치해 있으며 3대문화권 문화·생태 관광기반 조성사업을 통해 2018년 10월부터 석탄박물관, 가은오픈세트장, 가은모노레일, 에코타운, 자이언트포레스트 등을 통합해 복합문화 테마파크로 운영 중이다.

남명섭 관광진흥과장은 ‘대규모 시설 조성 후 시설 활성화를 위해 운영조직과 적절한 역할 분담, 지역 청년들과의 협력, 타 기관과의 연계사업을 발굴하기 위해 노력했고 지금은 개장 후 5년 이상 지나 시설 노후화가 진행되어 보수와 신규 콘텐츠 보강을 추진하고 있다’고 말했다.

신현국 문경시장은‘전국에서 추진한 지역관광개발사업 평가에서 우수사례로 대상을 수상하게 되어 영광스럽다’며 ‘앞으로 문경에코월드와 연계해 인근 가은읍에 관광용 테마 열차 조성과 가은아자개장터 리모델링 사업이 완료되면 문경에코월드를 방문한 관광객이 읍내로 유입되어 지역경제가 더욱 활성화될 것으로 기대한다’고 밝혔다.

Mungyeong Eco World is located in Gaeun-eup, Mungyeong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and has been operated as a complex cultural theme park since October 2018 by integrating the Coal Museum, Gaeun Open Set, Gaeun Monorail, Eco Town, and Giant Forest through the 3 Major Cultural Zone Cultural and Ecological Tourism Infrastructure Development Project.

Nam Myeong-seop, Director of Tourism Promotion, said, “After constructing a large-scale facility, we worked hard to find an appropriate division of roles with the operating organization, cooperation with local youth, and joint projects with other organizations to revitalize the facility. Now, more than five years after opening, the facility has become aging, so we are promoting repairs and reinforcing new content.” Shin Hyeon-guk, Mayor of Mungyeong, said, “I am honored to have received the grand prize as an excellent example in the evaluation of regional tourism development projects promoted nationwide,” and added, “In the future, when the construction of a tourist theme train in nearby Gaeun-eup and the remodeling project of Gaeun Ajagae Market in conjunction with Mungyeong Eco World are completed, we expect that tourists visiting Mungyeong Eco World will flow into the town, further revitalizing the local economy.”
