이들은 중앙선(단양 도담역∼경북 영천역) 복선전철화 사업 진행 상황을 공유하고 군위역 신설에 따른 역세권 개발의 필요성, 군위역과 연계한 대중교통망 구축 그리고 연결도로 신설 등을 심도 있게 논의 했다.

오는 12월 중에 중앙선이 개통·운영 되면, 군위역에 고속열차와 일반열차가 정차할 예정이며, 철도개통으로 군위군을 방문하는 관광객이 늘어나 관광경제 활성화에 크게 도움이 될 전망이다. 

박창석 위원장은 “이번에 신설되는 군위역이 서대구 역세권 개발 사업처럼 지지부진하지 않으려면 지금이라도 대구시와 군위군이 협의체를 구성해 역세권 개발을 서둘러야 한다”며 “버스 등 대중교통망을 구축하고 연결도로를 건설해야 한다”고 말했다.

또한 “현재 운영 중인 대구시티투어 군위군 노선에 군위역과 인접 관광지를 추가하는 방안 마련과 관광상품 및 프로그램 신규 개발을 통해 관광객 유입과 소비지출 증가를 유도하는 종합대책을 조속히 마련해야 한다”며 “이에 대한 내용을 대구시와 군위군에 촉구할 예정”이라고 덧붙였다.
