지난 25일 포항시의회 더불어민주당 소속 김상민·박희정·김만호·박칠용·전주형·최광열·김은주 의원이 “포항시의회에 협치와 소통은 기대할 수가 없다”며 기자회견에 나섰다.

이들은 “9대 후반기 포항시의회는 출범과 동시에 매 회기마다 논란이 지속되고 있어 참담함을 금할 수 없다”며 김일만 포항시의장에 대한 불신을 드러냈다.

포항시의회는 최근 예결특위 구성에서 민주당 의원을 전원 배제해 논란이 됐다. 이와 함께 김일만 의장이 언론 인터뷰에서 “민주당이 원내교섭단체 구성을 요구하며 의정활동에 사사건건 태클을 걸어와 특위에 구성하지 않았다”고 발언하면서 갈등은 심화되는 모양새다.

이에 민주당 의원들은 “김일만 의장은 사실관계를 확인하자 해당 기자와 통화를 한 적은 있지만 구체적으로 관련해 이야기한 적은 없다고 했다”고 설명했다.

그러면서 “김 의장이 해당 발언을 하지 않았다면 언론사에 정정보도를 요청해야하며 그렇지 않다면 본회의에서 공개로 사과해야한다”고 강조했다.

이들은 “현재까지 관련 기사는 정정되지 않았는데 그 이유는 김일만 의장이 해당 발언을 했기 때문”이라며 “사실 관계를 왜곡한 김일만 의장의 발언에 심각한 유감을 표명하는 바”라고 말했다.

또한 “민주당이 원내교섭단체의 필요성을 강조했지만 이것이 예결특위에 배제된 사유가 될 수 없다”며 “김 의장은 이해할 수 없는 행위를 지속하고 있다”고 꼬집었다.

아울러 “민주당 의원들은 김일만 의장이 민주당 의원의 명예를 훼손한 것과 관련해 사실을 왜곡한 것에 대해 공개 사과할 것을 강력히 촉구한다”며 “공개 사과하지 않는다면 더욱 강력한 조처를 취할 수 있다”고 경고했다.
