18일 영천시에 따르면 이번에 발생한 수돗물 수질피해(망간)는 지난 7일 일부 지역에서 필터가 평소보다 검게 변한다는 민원이 접수되면서 원인조사에 들어갔다.

조사 결과, 8일 영천댐 전도현상으로 인한 망간유입 현상을 한국수자원공사를 통해 확인했고, 이에 시는 긴급히 염소처리 강화와 배수작업 등을 통해 10일 06시부로 수돗물 음용 적합상태로 복구했다.

그 과정에서 영천시는 10일 00시부터 06시까지 수돗물 망간농도인 0.05ppm을 초과한 완산동과 금노동 주민들의 음용금지를 안내헸다. 망간은 건강에 해를 끼치지 않으나 주로 물의 맛이나 냄새, 탁도 등을 유발하는 심미적 영향물질로 알려져 있다.
