이 도지사는 “2025년 APEC 정상회의가 대통령 탄핵으로 인해 제대로 추진 되겠느냐는 의구심을 불식시켜야 할 필요가 있다. 이를 위해 여당, 야당과 정부가 함께하는 공동사절단을 구성해 우리나라 정치의 안정성을 보여줘야 한다”라며 APEC 21개국에 국회 사절단 파견을 주장했다.

이어 “국회 차원에서 여야정공동사절단을 파견해 2025 APEC 정상회의는 차질 없이 준비되고 있고, APEC 개최 이전에 우리나라 국가 지도 체제도 확실히 정비되어 개최에 전혀 문제없다는 안정성을 설명해야 한다”고 말했다.

또 “2025 APEC CEO Summit 의장을 맡고 있는 최태원 회장을 중심으로 경제사절단도 파견해 지난 2030 부산 세계엑스포 유치 때와 같이 국내·외 붐 조성이 필요하다”고 언급했다.

이철우 지사는 “국내에서도 2025년 APEC 정상회의 성공을 돕기 위한 범국민적 지원 분위기를 조성해야 한다”고 덧붙였다.

한편, 경상북도는 지난해 확보한 2025년 APEC 정상회의 개최를 위한 예산과 여야의 폭넓은 지지 속에 제정된 ‘2025경주 아시아태평양경제협력체 정상회의 지원특별법’을 근거로 행사 준비에 박차를 가할 예정이다.
