시에 따르면 이번 조치로 무료택시 카드 충전 금액은 2월 1일부터 연말까지 기존 13만 2,000원에서 16만 원으로 인상된다.

또한 1회 결제 한도 역시 8,000원에서 1만 2,000원으로 상향 조정된다. 단, 초과 금액은 이용자가 직접 부담해야 한다.

시스템 수정과 보완 작업으로 인해 1월 한 달간 무료택시 이용은 일시 중단되며, 충전된 금액은 12월 31일까지 사용하지 않을 경우 소멸된다.

이번 확대는 지난해 택시 기본요금이 3,300원에서 4,000원으로 인상된 후 어르신들의 충전 금액 부족 문제와 택시업계의 요구를 반영한 조치다.

경주시는 이 조치로 어르신들의 교통비 부담을 줄이는 동시에 지역 택시 산업에도 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 기대하고 있다.

어르신 기본요금 무료택시 사업은 경주시가 2022년 6월부터 시행해 온 복지사업으로, 70세 이상 경주시민이면 주소지 읍면동 행정복지센터를 통해 신청할 수 있다.

주낙영 경주시장은 “무료택시 확대와 더불어 올 하반기부터 시행되는 70세 이상 어르신 무료 시내버스 이용으로 교통복지가 크게 향상될 것”이라며 “어르신들의 이동 편의를 위한 다양한 지원책 마련에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
