【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=양금희 경상북도 경제부지사는 지역 방위산업 육성과 방산기업 지원을 위해 3일 국방과학연구소(ADD)를 방문해 상호 협력 방안을 논의했다.

경북도에 따르면 국방과학연구소는 1970년 창립 이래 지난 54년 동안 피땀 어린 노력과 연구개발로 세계시장을 선도하는 무기체계를 만들고, 세계 일류 수준의 연구소로 거듭났다.

경북 구미는 경남 창원과 더불어 우리나라 방위산업의 역사를 같이해 온 도시로써 2023년 유무인복합체계 중심의 방산혁신클러스터에 선정되어 한 단계 더 높은 도약을 준비하고 있다.

그러나 지역에는 190여 개사의 방산 관련 중소기업과 LIG넥스원, 한화시스템 등 체계기업이 소재하고 있으나 이들 기업을 뒷받침해 줄 방산 연구기관이 전무한 실정이다.

이에 국방과학연구소와 같은 우수한 연구개발 역량을 갖춘 기관의 지원과 협업이 절실한 상황으로 경상북도는 앞으로 국방과학연구소와의 협업을 위해 네트워크를 구축해 나갈 계획이다.

양금희 경북도 경제부지사는 “국방과학연구소(ADD)와 네트워크를 구축하고, 우수한 연구개발 역량을 활용해 지역 방산 중소기업과 함께 연구개발 등 협력 방안을 모색하겠다”고 밝혔다.
