경북도에 따르면 기사회생 버스는 지역 경제 활성화와 민생 안정 지원을 목표로, 기업인과 민생현장의 당사자를 직접 만나 위기를 함께 극복하는 동력을 얻기 위한 취지에서 기획됐다.

이날 포항시청에서 이철우 도지사가 직접 주재한‘경상북도 이차전지·철강기업 간담회’는 포항시장, 포항시의회 의장, 포항상공회의소 회장, 경북도의원, 이차전지 기업 12개 사, 철강 기업 10개 사, 지역대학, 공공기관 등 100여 명이 참여한 가운데 기업인들의 현장 목소리를 직접 듣고, 구체적인 해결 방안을 함께 논의했다.

포항시는 국가 기간 산업이자, ‘산업의 쌀’로 불리는 철강산업이 위기에 직면했으며, 이차전지 산업도 전기차 캐즘 현상으로 주춤한 상황에서 산업 재도약의 기회가 필요한 지역이다.

경상북도는 이차전지 산업의 성과와 방향, 철강산업의 재도약을 위한 전략을 차례로 발표하고, 포항시의 산업 재도약을 위한 비전을 제시하면서, 포항시와 함께 주력산업인 철강과 이차전지 산업의 위기 극복을 위한 방편으로 산업통상자원부에 산업위기대응특별지역 지정을 위해 노력할 것임을 밝혔다.

또한, 철강업계에서 건의한 ‘철강 탈탄소 설비투자에 대한 정부 직접지원 확대’,‘경제성 있는 철강 탄소중립 전환을 위해 저렴한 비용의 청정수소 확보’,‘포항 지역 주요 철강사들이 참여하는 간담회 정례화 요구’등에 대해 지자체 차원에서의 지원과 함께 정부 관계부처와 원활한 협의를 통해 적극적으로 돕겠다고 밝혔다.

이차전지 분야에서는 ‘친환경 설비투자에 대한 인센티브 지원’,‘분산에너지 특화지역 지정을 통한 전력 자립률 고도화 및 전력비 인하’등에 대해서는 보조금 지원 예산을 확대 편성해 투자할 여력이 있는 기업을 적극 발굴하며, 분산에너지 특화 지역 공모를 통한 전력 자립률 제고 방안 등에 대한 계획도 함께 공유했다.

이 도지사는 간담회를 마친 후, 죽도시장을 방문해 상인연합회 회원들과 함께 오찬 간담회 시간을 갖고 애로사항과 시장 활성화 방안에 대한 의견을 나눈 뒤 장을 보면서 상인회를 격려하는 등 민생현장에도 세심한 신경을 썼다.

이후 포항공대에서 철강·금속산업 디지털 대전환 선포식에 참석해 철강·금속 디지털 전환 생태계 조성 관련 민간 협력체계 구축을 위한 업무협약을 체결하였다. 향후, 공동 협업 프로젝트 및 산업 인공지능(AI) 등 첨단 디지털 기술의 공동 활용이 기대된다.

이철우 경상북도지사는 “대한민국은 위기 상황에도 언제나 지혜로운 길을 찾았으며, 그 중심에는 우리 경북이 있었다”면서, “기사회생 버스를 통해 도민들과 똘똘 뭉쳐 위기를 타파하는 하나된‘경북의 힘’을 다시 한번 보여주는 계기로 삼겠다”고 밝혔다.
