1997년 5농가로 시작된 봉화군의 화훼 농가는 28년 만에 62개로 확대되며 경북 화훼산업의 중심지로 자리 잡았다. 

초기에는 장미와 거베라 등 일부 품목만을 재배했지만 현재는 리시안셔스, 칼라, 델피니움, 작약 등 다양한 품목이 고르게 출하된다.

경북 내 화훼 출하량도 출하액도 압도적 1위

13일 봉화군에 따르면 최근 서울 양재동 (aT)화훼공판장 출하 금액 및 물량 통계 분석 결과 지난해 봉화에서 출하된 화훼가 경북 전체 출하량의 44%에 달하는 것으로 나타났다.

출하액의 경우 41억 1천479만 원으로, 전국 화훼시장의 4.16%이며 경북 전체로 따졌을 때는 39.1%를 차지하는 수치다.

경부선과 호남선 도매상회로 출하되는 물량은 양재 화훼공판장의 두 배 이상으로 추정되며, 기타 온라인 판매와 수출 실적까지 합산하면 지난해 봉화군 화훼산업의 총매출은 100억 원을 넘어설 것으로 예상된다.

다양한 노력 바탕으로 어려운 여건 속 꾸준한 성과

봉화군은 올해 시군프로젝트사업을 통해 총 7천425평 규모의 신규 시설하우스를 조성하고 기존 농가의 재배 면적을 확대한다. 안정적인 화훼 생산 환경을 조성해 고품질 화훼 생산으로 시장 경쟁력을 확보한다는 계획이다.

또한 국내외 화훼생산 농가와의 경쟁에서 봉화군에서 생산된 화훼품목들이 최고의 품질로 인정받을 수 있도록 수출 확대도 적극적으로 지원할 예정이다.

최근에는 20~39세의 청년 농가가 8농가 증가하며 지역에 새로운 활력을 불어넣고 있다. 젊은 농가의 참여로 품질 관리와 신기술 도입이 활발해지면서 봉화 화훼산업의 경쟁력은 더욱 강화될 전망이다.

박현국 봉화군수는 “봉화군의 화훼산업은 단순한 농업 생산을 넘어 지역 경제 활성화에 중요한 역할을 하고 있다”며 “꾸준한 품질 개선과 생산성 향상을 위해 행정적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 강조했다.
