칠곡군이 이 운동을 시작한 계기는 행사에서 애국가를 부를 때 소리가 작거나 입만 움직이는 경우가 많았기 때문이다.

김재욱 칠곡군수는 “공식 행사에서 애국가를 부를 때 입만 움직이고 소리는 들리지 않는 경우가 많았다”며 “저부터 솔선수범해 애국가를 힘차게 부르고, 이를 통해 대한민국을 더욱 자랑스럽게 여기는 분위기를 만들고 싶다”고 강조했다.

이에 지난해 10월, 젊은 공무원들로 구성된‘애국가 합창단’이 결성됐다. 김경진·김윤주·박상현·안태기·오하림·허예지 주무관이 참여했으며, 특히 박 주무관은 뮤지컬 배우 출신, 안 주무관은 연예인을 꿈꾸던 경험이 있어 음악적 재능과 열정을 갖춘 이들이 주축이 됐다. 이들은 바쁜 업무 속에서도 시간을 내어 연습하며, 공식 행사에서는 정장을 갖춰 입고 무대에 올라 애국가를 부른다.

퇴근 후에도 연습을 거듭한 이들은 시행착오를 겪으며 더욱 완성도 높은 화음을 만들어갔다. 첫 무대에서는 다소 긴장한 모습도 있었지만, 점차 안정된 목소리로 애국가를 선창하며 큰 호응을 얻었다.

이들의 공연을 본 공직자들과 주민들은 점점 더 힘찬 목소리로 애국가를 따라 부르며 행사 분위기를 뜨겁게 만들었다. 왜관읍에서 식당‘큰집 막창’을 운영하는 박귀선(50) 씨는 “나도 모르게 점점 더 힘차게 부르게 됐다. 모두가 더 큰 목소리로 부르니 더욱 의미 있는 시간이 됐다”고 말했다.

칠곡군은 애국가 부르기 문화를 전국적으로 확산시키기 위해 온라인 이벤트도 기획하고 있다. 참가자는 자신 있게 애국가를 부르는 모습을 촬영해 유튜브, 네이버, 페이스북 등 동영상 플랫폼에 업로드한 뒤, 칠곡군 공식 SNS에 영상 링크와 참가 사연을 접수하면 된다. 우수 참가자에게는 기념품이 제공되며, 애국가 부르기를 보다 자연스럽게 확산시킬 계획이다.

김 군수는“나라를 사랑하는 마음의 첫걸음이 바로 애국가를 부르는 것”이라며,“애국가 열창으로 감동을 선사한 이철우 경북도지사의‘애국가 챌린지’와 연계해 전국적인 애국가 부르기 문화로 확산시키겠다”고 밝혔다.

칠곡군에서 시작된 작은 변화가 대한민국 전역으로 퍼지며, 애국심의 물결로 자리 잡을지 관심이 집중되고 있다.

Chilgok-gun formed the first ‘national anthem choir’ among local governments nationwide. When the choir leads the national anthem at official events and regular assemblies, civil servants and residents sing along and reflect on the meaning of love for the country.

The reason Chilgok-gun started this movement was because there were many cases where the voice was small or only the mouth moved when singing the national anthem at events.

Chilgok-gun Mayor Kim Jae-wook emphasized, “When singing the national anthem at official events, there were many cases where only the mouth moved and the voice was not heard,” and “I want to take the lead and sing the national anthem powerfully and create an atmosphere where people are more proud of the Republic of Korea.”

In response, the ‘national anthem choir’ comprised of young civil servants was formed in October of last year. Kim Kyung-jin, Kim Yoon-joo, Park Sang-hyun, Ahn Tae-gi, Oh Ha-rim, and Heo Ye-ji participated in the event. In particular, Park was a former musical actor, and Ahn dreamed of becoming an entertainer, so they were the main characters with musical talent and passion. They took time out of their busy schedules to practice, and at official events, they would go on stage in formal attire to sing the national anthem.

They practiced even after work, and through trial and error, they created a more perfect harmony. Although they looked a bit nervous at the first stage, they gradually sang the national anthem with a stable voice, receiving a great response.

Public officials and residents who watched their performance sang the national anthem with increasingly more powerful voices, heating up the atmosphere of the event. Park Gwi-seon (50), who runs the restaurant ‘Big House Makchang’ in Waegwan-eup, said, “I sang it more powerfully without realizing it. It was a more meaningful time because everyone sang it with a louder voice.”

Chilgok-gun is also planning an online event to spread the culture of singing the national anthem nationwide. Participants can confidently film themselves singing the national anthem, upload it to video platforms such as YouTube, Naver, and Facebook, and then submit the video link and their participation story to Chilgok-gun’s official SNS. Outstanding participants will receive a souvenir, and the plan is to spread the national anthem singing more naturally.

Governor Kim said, “The first step to loving the country is singing the national anthem,” and added, “We will spread the national anthem singing culture nationwide by linking it with the ‘National Anthem Challenge’ of Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheol-woo, who moved people with his passionate singing of the national anthem.”

Attention is focused on whether the small change that started in Chilgok-gun will spread throughout the Republic of Korea and become a wave of patriotism.
