[Break News Pohang] Reporter Park Young-jae = POSCO Human Resources Creation Center (Director Yang Byeong-ho) is operating a field-oriented education program that combines theory and practice by starting the '25-1 job-specific education' for 84 new POSCO production technology employees on the 10th.
This education, which has been in operation since 2024, is designed to acquire basic job skills before being assigned to a steel mill. New employees will learn common subjects required in the fields of operation and maintenance and then be deployed to the field. The operation training course will be held for approximately 5 weeks from February 10 to March 14, and the maintenance training course will be held for approximately 9 weeks from February 10 to April 11.
POSCO Human Resources Creation Center designed the curriculum for this education by considering the social background, work environment, academic background, and major of the participating employees. The job-specific training is divided into four operating divisions (iron making, steel making, hot rolling, cold rolling) and two maintenance divisions (machinery, electricity) and consists of customized courses.
The training is conducted by a team of current POSCO employees, focusing on improving practical job skills through real-life cases occurring at the steel mill. In addition, the plan is to maximize the training effect by conducting weekly evaluations and end-of-course evaluations in parallel.
This year, job-specific training is scheduled to be conducted in four sessions in Pohang and Gwangyang, with a total of 800 participants. An official from the Safety Technology Education Group, which is in charge of POSCO Group’s steel and machinery job training, said, “We will develop a more systematic and diverse training model through this training,” and “We will further strengthen the company’s core competitiveness by strengthening the capabilities of field employees in the future.”
