영덕군은 2019년부터 본격적으로 웰니스 관광사업에 집중하며 눈에 띄는 성과를 이루었다. 2020년에는 명상과 자연건강 체험을 제공하는 ‘인문힐링센터 여명’이 문화체육관광부와 한국관광공사가 선정하는 ‘추천 웰니스 관광지’에 선정되었고, 2024년에는 다시 ‘우수 웰니스 관광지’로 재선정되며 웰니스 관광명소로서 입지를 다졌다. 같은 해, 고래불국민야영장은 ‘경북 웰니스 관광지’로 선정되며 웰니스 관광의 중요한 명소로 자리잡았다.

또한, 경상북도와 공동으로 개최한 ‘영덕 국제 H-웰니스 페스타’는 웰니스와 의료를 융복합한 콘텐츠로 큰 성공을 거두었으며, 이를 통해 영덕군은 국제적인 웰니스 관광지로서의 가능성을 입증했다.

영덕군은 지난해 12월, 경북 제1호로 ‘K-웰니스 도시’로 선정되었고, 올해에는 TV조선이 주관하는 ‘2025 K-브랜드 어워즈’에서 웰니스관광도시로 연속 선정되는 쾌거를 이루었다. 이는 영덕군이 한국을 대표하는 웰니스 중심도시로 자리매김했음을 다시 한 번 입증한 성과다.

또한, 블루로드의 테마로드 조성, 관어대 웰니스 관광지 개발, 세계 3대 자연치유의학을 체험할 수 있는 한방웰니스센터 조성 등 추가적인 웰니스 명소와 콘텐츠 개발에도 힘쓸 예정이다.

김광열 영덕군수는 “적극적인 투자 유치로 고급 숙박 시설이 들어서고, 동해선 철도 완전 개통, 영덕-포항 간 고속도로 완공 등 웰니스 중심도시로의 토대가 다져지고 있다”며, “웰니스산업의 독보적인 경쟁력을 바탕으로 지방소멸을 막고 지역 활성화를 이루겠다”고 밝혔다.

Through these, Yeongdeok-gun plans to leap forward as a leading center for the global wellness industry and tourism.

In addition, efforts will be made to develop additional wellness attractions and content, such as creating a theme road on the Blue Road, developing a wellness tourism destination at Gwaneodae, and creating an oriental medicine wellness center where you can experience the world's top three natural healing medicines.

Yeongdeok-gun Mayor Kim Gwang-yeol said, "With active investment attraction, high-end accommodations are being built, and the foundation for becoming a wellness-centered city is being laid with the complete opening of the Donghae Line railroad and the completion of the Yeongdeok-Pohang Expressway," and added, "We will prevent the extinction of local areas and revitalize the region based on the unrivaled competitiveness of the wellness industry."

Yeongdeok-gun will continue to strive to vitalize the local economy and achieve sustainable development centered on the wellness industry. Through this, Yeongdeok-gun will solidify its position as a city of health and healing and is expected to establish itself as a new center for wellness tourism.
