이번에 배치된 1511함(제민11호)은 동해 북방해역 신설에 따른 경비구역 재편으로기존 속초서에서 운용 중이던 것을 포항서로 전환 배치해 울릉도 및 독도를 포함한 동해해역에서 해양주권 수호와 긴급 구조 활동, 해양사고 예방 등 경비 임무를 수행할 예정이다.

이로써 포항서는 기존 대형함 3척에서 1척이 추가됨으로써 원거리조업선안전관리등해상경비를 강화하고 해양주권 확보는 물론 각종 해양사고 등으로부터 국민의 생명을 보호하는데 큰 역할을할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

1511함은 승조원 30명으로 최대속력 20노트(약 37km), 전장 90m, 전폭 14m규모이며 10m급 고속단정 2척, 40mm함포, 소화포, 각종 진압장비는 물론응급환자 이송에 필요한 해양응급원격의료시스템 등이 갖추어져 있다.
